How can I change my creative CDROM speed

Many old CD-s dont't run my Creative CDROM 36x, because the CDROM speed go very high and then down, but it dont't understand that the Programs CD is in, sometimes it says it is Music CD with only one track. With news CD-s CDROM can change speed low. Are there some programs witch i can change my CDROM speed?

I know what ya mean man...don't know a cure, but we have two old 8x creatives where I work, and both of them have been buggy ever since we bought them, so it's not a new prob for creative...as you say, sometimes it will call a cdrom an audio cd, and with ours...it may just not read them, and sometimes spins up off balance or something, because makes lots of vibration and racket. I just think the drives are junk personally...

I've had the same, and other problems as well with the a Creative CD ROM that had the Remote to go with it. I finally gave it away because it couldn't be recognized as a true ATAPI drive.

Try this:
Go into your Control Panel and double click the System icon. Click on the tab that says Performance. Now click on the button that says File System. This should pop up another window with more tabs on top. Click the tab that says CD-Rom. In the little optimization pulldown menu, set it to Optimize for no read ahead. . .or something like that. Reboot and try again. Let me know if that works.

It WORKS, I put there that the computer has no read ahead and it works, now I can load all my old CD-s.

No problem. Actually, thank the people at Black Isle software (creators of Baldur's Gate) for that advice. My new DVD/CD Rom drive was having trouble reading the installation CD for that game. I went to their tech support faq and found out that I wasn't the only person for whom the game would not install. The problem was that some new CD Drives are just TOO FAST!! That was their suggestion and I tried it. Unfortunately it didn't work for me because it turned out my disk was bad. Just thought it might help you out though.
