try uninstalling the whole program then do a defrag of your hard drive and reinstall it it should fix the problem for you http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

if you know how, try rooting around in your registry and see if you can get rid of all references to photoshop after you uninstall it and then do what scotter says. hopefully that will fix the problem....

I need some help with my Adobe Photoshop 5.0....

Here's my problem:

The program seems to be operating fine till I decided to upgrade it to Photoshop 5.5. After installing, I started Photoshop 5.5. I find that the loading splash screen will hang at "starting ICC engines" and then an invalid page fault error will appear. Hence, I can't load the program.

Having given up on Photoshop 5.5, I revert back to 5.0. Worked fine.

But after a few days, I decided to upgrade it to 5.02. After installing the upgrade, I can't even use Photoshop 5.0. The invalid page fault message appears again, no matter how I uninstall and reinstall Photoshop 5.0.

Anybody out there knows wat's the problem? I'm afraid that the 5.02 upgrade might have messed my windows settings and I can never run Photoshop again, unless I reinstall windows etc....

Maybe the invalid page fault message would help:

after you uninstall photoshop completely as you can from your computer go to the run prompt, type regedit. that should pop up and show you the various hkeys. go to the edit menu and select find. type in photoshop and then let regedit find any references to photoshop. if it finds any, delete them. also go the regular find and have it search your hard drive for any references to photoshop, and if it finds any, delete them too. sometimes the uninstaller does not do a good job at uninstalling, so you have to do it the old-fashioned way. hope this works and let us know how it goes...

Click on Star->Run-> and type sysedit
Click the "System.ini" Tab.
Go to the [386Enh]section
Edit or add the line "MinSPs=8", and see if you have an improvement.
The default Stack Pages for Windows is 2 - this will increase it to 8.

Hey everybody out there.....scotter, deep sky and Steve R Jones....I have solve the problem.....got the solution from the Adobe User Support Forum....

Here's what i did:

I went to "c:\windows\system\color" and transport all the ICM profiles in the "color" folder to another, any temp folder....once i remove the ICM profiles, my photoshop is able to work again....

On further investigation, I found that there was only one ICM profile that messed up the whole start-up....it's "VALVE17"....if i'm not wrong it's from Half-Life???
Anyways, i move the rest of the ICM profiles back except "VALVE17"....

I wish to thank everybody for taking time to reply and help poor old me. And for all the ideas and suggestions.....thanx

THANX again...bye
