Have AMD killed off the K6-III, in favour of the K6-2.
I have a K6-III 400 and was looking to go to a K6-III 500, but can't find them anywere.
Is that really it for Super Socket Seven????
Are they really telling me that I have to go out and buy a new mobo, new chip and new heatsink????? What a bloody expensive way to go.

The K6III wasn't getting good yields above 500mhz due to cache probs...k6-2 still has lots o headroom left!
But I think that the k6-iii is still here in spirit-and in notebooks. amd is gonna keep pushin em out for mobiles, they think they can get em there if they work on em.

Via Joshua @ 500Mhz?
where can i find benches?
what about cache, busspeed, etc.
the K6-2 + is a K6-3 with higher frequency...
...and i heared with the extended 3Dnow! technology of the athlon!

Just to make it clear, Joshua is not a socket 7 cpu. It is a Socket 370, and not exactly a standard Celeron or FC-PGA Coppermine 370 socket 370 at that. One thing many will no doubt like though, is the prospect of an unlocked multiplier.
Winchip 2(2a, and 3 too) could have been good performers, but the Mhz never ramped up to a level to compete. For the amount of money and effort that went into it, IDT is probably still laughing their way to the bank though.

Well I for one am not going to try the Joshua until second generation or so. Winchips and Cyrix both claimed a good product for cheaper, and they were, cheaper money = cheaper performance. I kinda liked the cyrix box I used to have, though. Ran rock solid stable, it was a 233 Mhz but NT detected it at 187Mhz. Like I said, cheaper price = cheaper performance.
Are you sure it was 233 and not actually 187?
Cyrix is notorious at naming chips below their real frequency. They have chips named like p200+, which ran at 150Mhz(75fsb) and claimed performance equal to a p200.
Or that m2-300 which was a 233Mhz chip, supposed to match a pentium 300Mhz

The Joshua specifications are impressive. It may be the first CPU that is introduced at a low price and actually goes up! - or not...hehehe
I would be willing to give it a shot - this CPU should make AMDs plans for a "Socket A" Athlon shoot for the bargain price hunters. Especially since the Athlon boards are likely to be pricy whereas the Joshua should run in any PII/III board.
P.S. I just put in a K6-2 500 and for the $84 I paid it is a very nice upgrade.

Hi all,
Joshua, as far as we know will be compatible with the _new_ socket-370 layout as used for PIII "coppermine"; and it'll use up to 133 MHz bus.
The 187 MHz display on the "233" Cyrix is correct - the "75 MHz 2.5x" flavor of Cyrix 6x86MX is one of those that carried the "233" performance rating.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Here is a useful link to see AMD's road map.
