Today I got a new PIII 450 at work and a new dog at home.
NT workstation: PIII 450, Asus P3PF, 8 meg TNT2, 64 Mb RAM, 17" monitor, Cherry keyboard, Logitech wheelmouse (replaces P1 200 mmx).
The dog is a Golden Retriever, male 8 months (and a monster already)

Are you planning to tweak or overclock either one of them? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

daveleau,
We all know that golden retrivers are not very good at oc'ing. The correct dog would be a min. doxie. A little more DC and a little caffine, one could even out perform a hamster http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif (gasp) not a hamster http://www.sysopt.com/forum/redface.gif

Actually,
The Two Global Win FKK32 Athlon heatsink/fan combos, completely cover my min. doxie. A little thermal grease and a couple retaining straps, and I am good to go.

Am still programming retriever, definately plan do to a bit of discreet overclocking on my PIII. I'm waiting for the Kingston memory thats still on order, till then will use some cheap memory. When I have proper memory, plan to clock it to 112x450, then will expiriment from there, I do have to be a bit careful, cause its not my PC.

If anyone really wants a dog that will overclock, get a Weimaraner. They are VERY energetic. My Weimy is about 6 and still runs around like a puppy. He also likes to pull me rollerbladin. My Weimy (Dakota) is also very loyal and protective of me and our property.

I'll be the first to say it. "Oh no, here she goes."

There would be obstructions to rear-mounting a heatsink or peltier, but an 80mm case fan mounted on a stalk attached to the leather restraining strap could sufficently cool the dog's frontal exhaust/heat dissipator. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I can't speak for the PIII, but call your vet or a local kennel club and take your pup to an obedience class. They're only one night a week for about 12 weeks for app $60.
Makes all the difference in the world. I had 4 labs, now I've got 3 labs and a huskie. There was so much difference before and after, you wouldn't believe they're the same dogs. And it doesn't break their spirit because it's all positive reenforcement. Without it we probably couldn't stand them. Good luck....

Roraycr- If I've got the numbers right, the training classes have a 25% chance of changing a dog into a huskie http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif j/k

Banti- Good analysis..but I had to put 2 of the labs down 2 years ago, and have acquired another lab and 3 months ago, my grandson came home with the huskie puppy. We were completely unthrilled, but she's become part of the family now. One other thing that helps with a pup is an airline kennel to put them in when you just can't stand them any more. Sure beats hollering and correcting when they do puppy nonsense and it make housebreaking almost a snap because they won't mess in their kennel if they can help it(being left in too long). Then just get them outside quickly when they get out and they catch on quick.

Roraycr,
Sorry to hear about the labs. I had one as a child... great dogs, but then again we had an entire yard to keep her in. You are right about the cage. My wife (girlfriend back then) decided she wanted a minnie doxie. Crate training is the best thing we ever did. But I will stop this rambling since it has nothing to do with the orginal post.

PS The funniest thing you can do with a dog is spray a garden hose at it. Watching my dog try to bite water cracks me up every time. I'd probably try to work out its temperment first though...

I must contribute to this post by making a couple of comments of my own. I have two great dogs: an English pointer / Golden Retriever cross (Walter), and a little ****zu (Buckhuit, pronounced buckwheat). Dogs are the greatest! So, congratulations on your canine acquisition and on the Pentium III!

Andy: Like Roraycr had commented, obedience training is the way to go. We bred and showed Keeshonds many yeras ago and went to an informal, weekly training group put on by the local rescue league. The results were so so good and our dogs responded very well that my wife got into showing them. Good luck to you and your best friend!! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

My dog (a mutt) is one of a kind. She's very smart for a dog that hasn't been to any obedience school. I can say "Give me your paw" and she will and then I can say "Other paw" and she'll give me her other paw. She can also "sing". When I say that she'll start whining/growling until I give her a dog biscuit. The key prefix in her mind is "wanna". Examples are: "Wanna go for a walk?", "Wanna cookie?"(dog biscuit), Wanna go bye-bye?"(go for a ride in car), "Wanna come up?"(hop on bed), "Wanna go get 'em kitties?"(chase anything that's not a dog) etc. I can also use hand and head signals to communicate. If she happens to be begging while I'm eating I can look at her and shake my head "no" without saying a word and she'll look away. I can also motion with my hands to have her come over to me. Sorry if this seems like boasting but I've never met a dog like this before. You guys have any cool tricks that you've taught your dogs?
And for labs (please take no offense) they have got to be the stupidest dogs on the planet http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif. Practically every house in my neighborhood has one. They always poop in our yard and runaway from their owners. Just the other day I was walking along the sidewalk and one of the many lab owners was chasing his dog. The dog was happily wagging it's tail as it ran into someones yard and snatched a bottle of open windshield wiper fluid. He ran back to his owner with the bottles handle in his mouth and blue liquid making a pleasent trail on the snow. The owner cursed and called the dog stupid as he dragged the thing inside. Now don't get me wrong, labs are EXCELLENT around kids because of their gentleness (from what I've seen). They're just not the dog for me.
If you lab owners have any stories to tell that contradict my opions feel free to share them.

Hello,
Can I say something? I don't know if I am allowed because I have a cat.

Warthog - You don't have a problem with stupid labs, you have a big problem with stupid owners!!

I do have one thing to say about the dumb labs. I agree that labs are not the problem. The owners are. I have noticed that when a dog is stronger than the owner, most owners give up and curse and beat their big dogs instead of pos. reinforcement. Therefore some labs run from their owners and the labs love every minute of it. One of the biggest problems is parents getting their kids a cuddlely puppy that grows to 130 lbs.
This is not an accusation or name calling. These are simply things I have noticed with problem dogs. One of my friends had a 180lb Great Dane, and trained the dog as a puppy. The dog was never a problem.

Yeah...I guess you guys may be right. Please don't think bad of me for poking fun at your dogs because my opinions are coming MY experience in MY neihborhood where labs are common. Thanks for your feedback.
