I really need your help, I finally got all my parts in, put it together and powered it up. And I cannot get it to see my hard drive.
BE6-II
Slocket-II 7x75@525mhz
pci video card in pci slot-1
Soundblaster Live in pci slot-5
56x cdrom@master in ide-1
maxtor 13.6 ata-66 in ide-3
BIOS
first boot device= udma-66
secound boot device= cdrom
third boot device= floppy
ultra dma66= enabeled
When computer boots up it shows no ide devices loaded. then the highpoint screen comes up and shows the maxtor 13.6 mode 4.
When i try to use the maxtor disk the only ide devices it finds is the cdrom. Any info or chew outs would be greatly appreciated.

Try disabling DMA mode, and if that doesnt help try booting up your pc without the cd-rom cable connected to the cdrom.
good luck

Maybe try putting the drive in IDE-1 and see what happens.

what is ide-3? do you mean that it is master in the secondary ide channel. my experience with maxtors is that they always want to be first if they are the boot drive. why dont you put it in the primary channel? also are the jumpers set correctly....
oh yeah, forget that ez disk thing. it is a pain in the **** and fdisk does the same thing without future hassles with the drive overlay that the disk creates.

I put it in IDE-3 because that is supposed to be the first channel for the ata-66 using the high point controller. This bios is supposed to be able to see drive's larger then the 13 gig I thought? I was not trying to use ez-bioz, I was going to use the Max Blast software to format and partition the drive.

I had a BE6 with a maxtor 13.6, and WD 10.2 on UDMA66. On the other side, `33, I had a Sony 2x8 Burner and a 48x CD ROM. Maxtor was Primary Master on the UDMA66 side. I booted right up on the first try with that system. It will first display the UDMA33 stuff, (CDROMS) and then when the Highpoint screen comes up, it will display your `66 stuff. It should then boot from the Master device in IDE Channel 3. Hit Ctrl-H to go into the highpoint properties, and somewhere in there, there should be a boot order or something to that effect. Also, restore defaults in the bios, I think your boot order may have a problem too. Did you try to boot from a floppy and see if you can see your hard drive or CDROM. If you usethe Win98 boot disk, your hard drive would be C:, CDROM E:

I went into the highpoint config, and set the maxtor 13.6 to p??-4. This allowed me to format and load windows on the hard drive. I then loaded all the highpoint drivers and then went back into the bios and set the maxtor for ultra dma. everything came up and is running great. Don't have Sandra loaded yet so I couldn't check everything. Still have a lot of software to load and get everything else setup.
Thanks so much for the help.
