memory benchmarks

My memory benchmarks with sandra are miserable...as in the idt winchip reference system beats what i am getting. not by much...but still.
I have a gigabyte ga-5ax mobo with the ALi aladdin V chipset, amd k6-2 400@450 and a 64 meg stick of generic pc 100 ram. is the low benchmark a result of the generic ram, the processor or the chipset?
also on the subject of memory..in my bios the ram latency has three settings, 2,3 and auto...i have left it on auto, but would it make any improvement to set it to 2 or 3?

Not to worry,
sandra has a known problem when it comes to AMD and mem benchmarks.

try setting it to 2, that should give you an improvment... (benchmark it to make sure...)

changed latency to 2, and saw a 15% benchmark improvement...thanks
even improvement on the other benchmarks (only one or two points...)

yeah I was suprised how much my results went up when I changed them to 2 instead of 3... I could only change two of the three latencies to 2 as when I changed one of them my computer would freeze...
