Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : OS on a cd, is it possible?
This may sound crazy and I know there would be some issues to work out such as no swap file, but would it be possible to install an OS and maybe some apps on a 600mb partition and then ghost it onto a bootable cdrom, for an os that runs off of a cdrom? It would be slow compared to a hd, but would it work?

yes it would work if you wanted to use windows though you would need a whole lot of memery
there is a operating system called QNX that loads from a floppy you only need 16 meg of memery it has modem support a built in internet broswer and a word proseser http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
for info about QNX OS go to www.qnx.com (http://www.qnx.com) http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

hey bdog, I don't know very much about that kind of stuff, but isn't what your proposing kind of how the new crusoe chip works? I caught bits and pieces of the C.E.O from transmeta corp explaining how their chip makes the software (O.S?) do alot of the processing that the chip used to do. Don't know if you have read up or heard very much about that new chip but seems to be along the same lines as your question. mp

Actualy, BEos has a demo that is like $10, it comes on a cd, you start the computer set to boot from the cd, and it runs 100% off the cd.
