I've been running my Malasian Celeron 300A @450 for almost a year. I purchased it from 'KickAss' hardware and have been very pleased with the results. I'm wanting to jump up in speed with a new main board and CPU, but I was wondering how I can push just a little bit more out of my ol' 300A @450. Every time I try to get it past 450 it either resets to 300 or locks up. I've tried to increase the voltage to no avail. I know this is a good 300A. I get 450 at 2.0 voltage. Shouldn't I be able to get at least 500 out of it? I'm running a quality Abit Bh6 main board. Oh and one other question on my upgrade. What CPU can I put in my BH6. Or do I need to get a newer main board. I want at least a 600mhz, so the PPGA Celrons are out. Thanks in advance.

How much did your mobo cost you? I have a celeron 300a but no mobo yet so I'm looking for good ones. Also I read that you can get the celeron 300a up to 504, if you put FSB at 112MHz.

Ahh the imfamous Bh6/300A combo. I had the exact same setup as you awhile back. Cept mine was a Costa Rica OEM. You can get 464 out of your chip probably pretty easily just by setting the turbo frequency on in the BIOS. User is right, you can get 504 (technically) at 112mhz bus speed, but don't count on it. My 300A ran beautifully, as yours seems to have done, at 450 and 464. It WOULD NOT hit 504 no matter what I put at it. I even tried using a 45W peltier, but to no avail. As for a new chip you could pop in your BH6, I've got a p3-500 which does 560 very easily, and some can do 620. Again, dont count on getting 620, but I can almost guarentee youll get 560 (kind of like the odds of getting a 300A to 450, very easy).

I have a P3 500@620 at 2.0 volts and it runs rock solid, I have a Abit BE6 mobo. It took me about a month of burning it in to get it to that point but it runs fine now, I think you can get 600 with no problem. Had to set the cache latency to 1 to get it to boot into windows. If you get this chip make sure you get a mobo that you can adjust the cache latency on because you need it. Could only get it to 600 on my Asus P3B-F due to this problem. I believe and have heard that you can get 630 out of this chip. You need a mobo that supports more FSB options, what I wouldn't give to get a board with 1 mhz increases right now because Im sure I could go higher because right now I can boot all the way into windows @667 which is the next FSB option on this mobo.
Right now I have PC100 memory, I can boot into windows 98 @667 but start to get VxD errors and it crashes when I try to run games. Anyone know, does this sound like a memory problem, if so I will get some PC133 because I love the benchmark scores Im getting @667
Thanks, and I hope this helped you.

racer2c: The BH6/300A is still a great combination. I've had one running at 464MHz(100MHzFSB/Turbo) for over a year as well. The CPU is also made in Malay. Though stable at 450MHz, I couldn't get it to except the turbo setting until one of two things happened. I upgraded my video card to a Voodoo III and also upgraded my BIOS up to the JJ (most current at the time). If you haven't already, upgrade your BIOS to most recent which supports Intel PIII 700. Stick with ABIT slot 1 systemboards. Good Luck.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Lots of food for thought. I love this board!

In Holland you pay about $100 for a Abit VIA VA6 133MHz FSB.

I did a test run on my Celeron 300a with my friend's mobo and went straight for the 450 but while loading Windows an error came up. It said Windows propection error, but when we put it to 428 it ran fine and the temp was around 40”Ęc. How can I get it to go @450 or any faster and with what mobo?

I have a Pentium III 500 MHz chip that can run at 600 MHz no prob, with the stick fan/ heatsink combo. But it doesn't get into windows when i try at 620. By the way, I am using the Asus P3B-F motherboard.
