Ok I broke down and bought some PC133 memory today after a long and drawn out mind battle, Can I afford it and is it necessary VS. The evil Overclocking VIRUS....
My system
P3 500@620 (for now)
128 PC100 Memory
CLabs Annihilator Video
Abit BE6 Mobo
Ok the other day I tried booting at 133/4 just to see if I could do it, It worked, and I even benchmarked the CPU however when I went to benchmark the memory it puked. And I started to get VxD error when loading games. Thinking this is because my memory cant handle the 133FSB speed I bought the memory in hopes that I could attain this speed and run stable.
Anyway I bought the memory installed it, (removing my PC100) and booted at 620 no problem. Ran some benchmarks played some games and desided to try ant 667, booted fine but half wat through loading windows it crashed. Tried different setting but no sucsess. Laoded in my old memory and it peformed like it did before.
So I start looking at the memory to find spec's. Of course it has the -7.5 at the end of the serial number on the memory chips. Upon futher inspection I find that it says PC100 on the side of the chip.
So I returned it. They tell me that just cuz it says PC100 on the chip doesnt meen it is (which could be true) that the -7.5 means that it is 7.5 Nano second memory which means that it is PC133 (which could be true) I say my PC100 out performs it on the benchmarks that I do, it will not run at 133FSB and this says PC100 on the chip. This all does not add up to a warm fuzzy feeling inside. So I return it.
My question, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
also you think the errors I get at 133FSB have to do with memory or the chip or the board.
Does the -7.5 mean the nanosecond since I have read some articles that this is not true, that they had these markings on memory long before PC100 even existed.
Sould I be happy with the way me PC is now and leave it alone before I break something. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Thanks
