Pointy_"Yes, I see. I take back my statements. Lets go post something on a bb.... sysopt! Lets ask all those intelligent people to hack the largest processor maufacturer in the world-its not like they have any resources to fight back with. I agree. I may not have been here more than 6 months or so, but I haven't seen anything that would lead me to believe KB is a bad guy. Why is everyone so hostile?

I think he has a history or something.

Anyway, I don't really care.
Killer, if you o/c'd that CPU, then it's your own fault and nobody elses. The warantee would be out any way. They probably couldn't proove you clocked it and found an excuse to invalidate the warentee.

KillerBug
01-26-2000, 02:08 PM
the fan cord got cut on a sharp edge of a case, it was the +12v lead, the fan stopped, and the chip overheated and dies, this is the second dead P3-450 I had, the first was overclocked, this one was never overclocked! They said it was not their fault that they used 2 cent fan wire on a $200 chip, and my warrantee was voided on the spot, I still say down with Intel, and from looking at Intels discussion forum, there are enough dead P3-450 chips that Intel voided the warrantee for even less reason than mine that $100,000 in damage would be them getting ahead by voiding warrantees left and right and up and down, and diagonals, and....

jad1097
01-26-2000, 02:13 PM
Now that really sucks KB.

SysOpt
01-26-2000, 02:41 PM
That's unfortunate but I don't see how Intel is to blame for that, unless you're trying to say that it was their fault for using a thin wire that they use on all CPU's. The warranty would kick in if YOURS was defective, not if you just don't like the way it is designed.

Mntsnow
01-26-2000, 05:51 PM
Wow..That must be a really sharp case and I dont know of any motherboards that have the 3 pin power connector on the other side of a "sharp" case opening. So it must have been determined that You improperly routed the fan wires that lead to the early demise of your cpu http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

Hmm...
Perhaps the manufacturer of the case is...
Na...
Now if the wire had been faulty prior to installation I would bet that Intel would have been more than happy to replace it.

This reminds me of the time I bought a carburator for my truck, during installation I tightened one of the mounting bolts too tight, busted the dang mounting flange. Funny, I never once thought of revenge on the carb. manufacturer. I sure was pissed at myself for a while though.

I guess what we're all trying to say is be a man, suck it up, and stop whining. We all like you, but if you make a mistake, you're the one to blame, not me or my unlce's mother. Say to yourself,"I'm a good little killerbug, i messed up my cpu, ill just have to tighten the money wad and get a new one........"

no kidding man save up buy yourself a fast enough cpu for a year or so and DON'T OC.... i know this seems like **** to most but.... buy what you plan to use.....
and watch out for wires man,tie it all up if you can... pairs of neat clean bundles do wonders for circulation, ect as well....

The first system i built was a SS7 and I didn't know to connect the fan and HS. I had a crash and looked inside. a friend called me a few choice names and fixed it for me. The next system I built, I forgot to hook it up and realized it really quickly before ther e were any problems. I was a real idiot! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

There is always in the print if you read hard enough something like "The items or supposed items that we are responsible for may change at any time at our option without notice. This includes any warranties either expressed or implied, to save or hold harmless the corporation known heretoforevermoreafter as i-dot chip. Without inclusion of express knowledge into the usage of our chips the warranty will extend until the seal is broken on the box from which Communist Dictatorship Child Slave Labor Union shippped it in. And save Juris Prudence that the minor fact that we paid the Child Slave Labor Union the enormus sum for each microprocessor delivered to i-dot chip co of $1.00(American)and sold them to you fat stupid imperialst pigs for $550.00 is in no way to be construed as inflationary.. the books of our company is open to the public,, and you can see that our top execs barely make the average of top paid employees at a megar sum of 7.8mil, not counting stock options.. So in closure, it is our consensus that the i-dot co. cannot afford to honor our commitment to produce quality products because of the excess blood of child slaves that has been spilled upon our shipping containers as of late.. Further more a open note to the tree huggers and environmentalists and those idiots who think human rights are important, " Just why the Hell do you think we put these factories overseas? So we can enjoy polluting the air and water and destroying the health and morale of the indentured workers" " You people are of the same class who think you have the right to drive on the road too,, what morons.. editor; this note was scavenged from the trash at a major distributor of electronic products, twisted beyond any hope of any representation of the original text. Take me to your leader

WOW, what a long post, Alien (no, I didn't read it). Anyway you would think a company the size of Intel would be willing to suck it up and replace the chip, especially when they have AMD breathing down their necks.

what is with the hostility lately?? Y2K, probably... lol

Have you noticed Intel's earnings reports?

AMD breathing down their necks ~ Not!

Intel encourages AMD to compete ~ it sure beats an antitrust action. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

P.S. No hostility toward Cobain1/Killerbug. Just a suggestion. Call it constructive criticism ~ as a freelance writer, I benefit from it on a regular basis. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Yes, the case is about as sharp as a packaging knife. I am going to grind it down a little soon. The wiring was hanging out of the edge when I closed it, the case went on without a feeling and the wire cut with that, if it was thiner than string, I would have felt the case going donw on it, in fact, if it was even remotely decent stuff, I would have realy had to force the case to cut it.

KB,

Take three deep breaths and relax!

Have you tried talking to the local Intel Field Applications Engineer in your area? Or the local sales office? These folks have more pity when it comes to problems...you can more easily reason with them and get a satisfactory resolution to your problem. And don't let them hose you off or send you to corporate Customer Service (the hell of all hells).

The local folks are always more sympathetic to your problem than the home office. Remember, Intel Customer service probably sees 1K+ bashed/battered/fried/zapped/PIB/melted-down/nuked/altered/OC'd to death/dropped/used-as-a-scraper/chewed-by-the-dog/[fill in defect here!] Pentiums of all flavors each week. So they have to be hard asses to minimize their warranty exposure.
But if you weasel into their system the *right* way and be persistent, i think you'll get the outcome you desire...
