I'm thinking of leaving my k6-II400 running at 300 for a couple of days at 2.8/2.9v with a view to getting her to run stable at 600, hopefully at 2.5v. Any opinions on this? At the moment she will post and runs W95 but isnt very stable at all. No BSOD's on bootup or anything but she seems to like hanging and locking up my mouse on me. Completely refuses to run Sandra so I cant get a benchmark to see if she running this high is worth it either. She is well cooled and runs flawlessly at 550@2.5v, but if she'll do 600 then that would be great, would make me a real proud AMD supporter.

Hi rich http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif well I've run through every thing on the net I can find about overclocking AMD chips and Ive seen a few claims of 600+ but none that showed how they did it or pictures of benchmarks of the systems so I'm not realy sure 600 is do able with a K6-2 or 3 chip if it is it's gona be with one of the chips that came out of the fab in the last few months or your going to need some realy good cooling like water and or pelters to keep the temp down around O/c even then I dont know might take sub 0 temps to do it
Also it it's a new AFX core chip I would not go over 2.8 volts
I'm preaty sure I could get my 450 to 575 it's at 550 now but I'm also sure that's all my chip has in it 575mhz and it whould be maxed out http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
anyway that's thats what I think I know, I know I think about it all http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
If you make it Please tell us all about it and how you did it and be careful and dont fry the 400 running 150mhz over stock it's a one of a kind http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Listen to scotter, he knows what he's talking about.
Try running at 425mhz and 2.6v to burn in for a while. It's very rare for a K6 to make 600 and if it does, it don't always last long. My K6-2 350 with an alpha will do 450mhz and 2.4or.5 volts. With more extreme cooling (72watt peltier) I'm sure it would do 475 or 500mhz. Be careful.

I think I'm gonna forget the 600 and keep it a dream for now.... This chip has and still is absolutely perfect in every respect, I'm not gonna risk her. If I dont benchmark her at 600 I wont know what I am missing, and if I never see it stable at 600 then I wont miss the performance. I know she will run 570 fine(95*6) but I feel this is a little hard for such a wonderful chip. Forget Socalgal maybe I should be taking this chip out for a meal http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Man, I love this chip and dont wanna kill her, she means more to me than anything else in my computing history(kinda like your first car?) I'm more than happy with 550, I think I'll leave her at that.
But i just KNOW she wants to go for 600! She is begging me to do it! ARRRGGHHH!!! The temptation is huge, she has been stable at every speed used so far apart from 600. But I'm gonna be strong willed, and just be happy with what I got from her right now. Thanks for all your input on burning in, especially Scotter, I take your advice and thoughts regarding the K6 series as law.

I will probably try for 600 one of the days right now I'm just doing to much else with my puter to risk a burnt chip http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Scotter go for it you'll do it no problems!! When CSC falls I'm dropping mine back to 500 and keeping her there. Its like my car, just cos i know she'll do 130mph I dont driver her like that all the time. If we ever get into a similar position to the current CSC position then I'll bump her back up.
I love this chip and I aint gonna kill her mircilessly http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif She's gonna be here for a whil yet http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Socalgal don't worry!! You are still the woman of which dreams are made, but you aint mine http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif This little chip is currently mine, and I'm gonna love and respect her like I'd love and respect you, until my big whiskey bottle is full enough to get me that plane ticket. Or that full whiskey bottle would buy me a dual athlon system, when it is full, but by that time Athlons will be so far out of date I'll still be coming over to see ya!

I have Quake 3, don't buy it unless ya have a load of people and a network. Much prefer HalfLife, but I'm **** at both so I'm gonna lose Socalgal either way <sigh>
*EDIT*
AMD will handle it no probs, but I wont last long enough to give it a chance to crash http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Get UT and prepare to be beaten! (I'm also reffering to that smarmy little K6-2 of yours)!!!!!
My 350 will smoke along at 428mhz and my Savage4 does a good job of backing it up.
No offence to any parties involved in this post, i.e. soclagal, richamies and scotter.
What's your PIII up to socalgal, hmm? lol http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Maybe you need to rearrange your priorities a little ( j/k )

Alpha your only running at 428mhz http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif man get with the program me and rich are crusin at 550 mhz http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif talk about leavin tire track's we would smoke you all the way by the by K-6-2 450 @ 550 with a voodoo3 2000 clocked to 175mhz are you sure I mean really sure ya want to take that bet ? lol http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
so any way I can see that as soon as I get the extra few $ I'm gona have to get UT just to show ya what a K-6-2 can do http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Errmmmm well Alpha would kick my *** I got a 4mb AGP ATI Rage pro heap-o-****e here, but its fine cos I dont play games. Alpha wins! Scotter wins! I lose! Same as normal.
I'm happy though cos I just got my own name on the internet www.richamies.co.uk (http://www.richamies.co.uk) hehe am I the first?
You think your vid card is bad? I've got a 4MB S3 Trio3D. This piece of **** can only give me 13fps w/ QII crusher demo. Good thing I'm not a game buff. But it's really awful with my CAD apps. BTW, anyone has an experience w/ Matrox G400? I'm planning to buy one to mate w/ my K6-2/350 @ 500 and
ep-mvp3g2 mobo. Is it good w/ overclocking? Thanks in advance.

Savage4 has S3TC, UT has 522mb of EXTRA textures completly omptimised for this card. I didn't say I'd beat him did I? I was actually talking about beating people in deathmatch UT http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif, Despite the VooDoo3's speed, the Savage4 is the king (or queen, whichever you prefer http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif)of image qualtiy. Mmmmm, S3TC I'm currently looking for a K6-2 533. Board has no 133FSB, so I'l give it 600mhz http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Hell, socalgal's PIII would leave my machine in the dust. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
No real competition (except for the deathmatch http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif) ment in this post.
EDIT~
I think I'm going for a K6-III 400 http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif 256k of full speed on board L2. Never say die http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif (get it? on die cache?)
EDIT~
Or mabey a celeron 366...
