Okay I think I am gonna start using my Peltiers but I need to know excactly what I should do to prevent the condensation from frieing my system http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
I.E where to put the Vasaline or mineral spirits or what ever.
I just need to know what to do so the condensation doesn't fry it.

Thanks to everyone in advance,
Dave Kay

Yep, 2000 has the halt function built in. If I remember correctly, you have a dual cpu system don't you? Most (all, almost) dual cpu operating systems have the halt function, NT, Linux, 2000. Hope you find a way around it.

and use foam to seal it off that will do the job

I have a dual Celeron 366 system on a BP-6 running Win2000 and I do not have any condensation on this system nor any of my other systems running peltiers.

Dkay mentioned something very important to the condensation issue in his second post. "I am running RC5 all the time".

The RC5 client software will use 100% CPU load 24/7 so no halt commands are ever issued no matter what operating system you use. I have tried Win 98, Win 2000, and Linux without any condensation because I always run RC5 on the systems. The CPU slug and the peltier never has a chance to cool down enough to let condensation form.

WOW!!!'
Thanks everyone for the quick replies.
Man I love this place http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Maybe thats why its my start up page http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Okay sterling are you running a 5v 12v switch???

I just don't wanna fry my baby http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Alpha yes you are correct. BP6. thanks for remembering http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

By the way, condensed water hardly conducts electricity because it has almost no ions but who knows, what may happen if you don't seal your cpu correctly. A friend of mine used silicon gel.. hehe... I think he would never see his slot-1 card with full-details but 366 works @ 600 or something..... we don't want anything else, do we?

So basiclly if I coat the socket where the pin recievers are I am okay (the beige part?)
And the underof the cpu?

Thanks

I did NOT coat my Celeron 366's with anything, I did however use closed cell foam insulation (meat packing tray cut up) which I sandwiched around and between my processor, cold plate, peltier, and heatsink. After bolting it all together, I then smeared silicone caulking around all exposed surfaces to prevent air from getting into the peltier. I leave the peltiers running on my 12 volt supply spliced into my power supply. I do not switch them from 5 volts to 12 volts.

Okay sterling you used the term "BOLT"
That reminds me are what are using to attach the setup to the board? My alpha heatsink clip can't even do the job well.

Any ideas?

Well sorry, I was still thinking about my P2-450 system which I did "bolt" together using screws.

I found that the Alpha heatsink clips were not the best because of the way they were bent, but after getting two pairs of pliers and a little bending of my own, the clips worked fine at holding down the heatsink, peltier, cold plate, and the processor.

Thanks I will try that http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Biggest thing to remember is don't use NT 4, linux, or any type of cpuidle program if your not using an OS which automatically does this. Instant death to your chip http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Also I've heard, though not tried, that vaseline under the chip and on the pins will help repel water (vaseline is totally non-conductive). Just a few ideas.

Thanks!
Does 2000 have that halt command built in?
I think I will have a 5 volt 12 volt switch with a seperate Power supply and RC 5 running all the time.

Any other places guys?
