For some reason I cannot overclock my P3 500 on a new Asus P3B-F board. I set it to jumper mode, and set the dip switches to 5.5x keeping the bus at 100 but the bios remained at 500. Am I doing something wrong? The last time I overclocked a chip was with an AMD 233 quite a while back, so I might be missing something...

hey dman i overclocked my PIII 450 to 558 using a 124 fsb w/ no problems as far as ram is concerned. my generic pc100 runs fine at 124. i hit 600 the other day but it seized up when i tried to run a benchmark on it? i think 133 is too much for the ram. i think it is easier to o/c the p3b-f using the bios settings instead of the jumpers (jmho).
good luck

ALL pentium 3 chips are clock locked!!!!!!! That's why if you keep messing with the clock multiplier it won't change the speed at all. Instead you have to change the FSB speed......(take it slow man....)

Yep, I just found that out. Heh, I kinda figured it was something like that. I have seen some people going as high as 112Mhz on the FSB, but I get a gut feeling that the memory would have fits at that speed. Am I just overreacting? What is reccomended? I guess I could start low and crawl up to see what it does.

Hey, i've got my Piii-500 sucsefully running @ 600 mhz on an Asus P3B-F.
I upped the volts to 2.20 and FSB to 120Mhz.
Running like a charm and my temp utility reports between 60-65 degrees cel.
hope this helps.
