I think I spent days and days and days (...) on that game. I loved blowing up these aliens b\!!$% Stan Carl Uman 09-17-1999, 08:48 AM River Raid for Atari reddog4629 09-17-1999, 09:18 AM Pakman-Yeah Andrew 09-17-1999, 02:13 PM Shadowgate for the NES...loved it...stayed up nights trying to figure it out... Red Rage 09-17-1999, 02:32 PM I would have to say, Pool of Radience or Final Fantasy LordLocksley 09-17-1999, 02:41 PM I agree w/ Carl...I still play River Raid... U-96 09-17-1999, 02:55 PM Hmmmm that's a toughie... Elite on the Acorn Electron/BBC There was a game on the Amiga by Broderbund where you flew a Helldiver across Japanese islands and machine-gunned little men and torpedoed warships. I played that for months. Can't remember the name, sorry. Something like 'Wings of Glory' Wings, a WW1 flightsim, was the most atmospheric game ever, with period tunes, etc. The original Civilisation, Railroad Tycoon, B-17 and Gunship on the PC/Amiga. Those were all groundbreaking when they appeared and soaked up most of my spare/sleep time. Microprose could do no wrong c.1990-3. /forum/smile.gif U-96 mudoggy 09-17-1999, 03:38 PM LOL U-96.. I remember the Broderbund game.. Im not sure about the 'Glory' part, but maybe wings of Steel, or something Fury.. ohhh man.. I can see and hear the game but not the title! (I couldn't torp ships, but had fun bombing, strafing, and rocketing the poor souls on the ground). Wings was awesome as well, but strafing missions were a drag (toooo long). Silent Service II for the Amiga was addictive, and many games from my C64 days were as well: Raid on Bungling Bay, Jumpman, Beach Head, Loderunner, Destroyer, Racing Destruction Set, Battle of Antietam.(Really, I wasn't a violent child..) Our whole family used to play Jumpman and Mario Bros. against each other (you had to jump up from below and flip over crabs and other little beasties..then walk up and kick them off the screen. The Infocom text games were fun.. Zork and all that. I've gotten "The Speech" from the lady about playing Imperialism until 3AM... (hahah worst part is, she's right! hahah /forum/wink.gif ) Seven Cities of Gold just popped into my head as well.. "Pirates!" was cool too, as was F15 Strike Eagle I and II.. yes, Microprose was king... It's sort of like civilization in concept, but the gameplay is much better in my opinion. You get to choose from 30 different species of aliens (none of which are even humanoid) and use them to build an interstellar empire & eventually take over the universe! I believe it was made by a company called "The Logic Factory" IRED 09-17-1999, 07:17 PM Is Astoroids to new? That is my favourate but Ms. Pacman is a close second. Joel Kleppinger 09-17-1999, 08:34 PM There was the sweetest basketball game for the day: Magic Johnson's MVP by Virgin Interactive (now THAT was ironic /forum/wink.gif). That was the game that I was addicted to for many months. I got so good with it, I decided to see how many consecutive 24 game + 8 team tourney seasons I could go undefeated in consecutively. I think my best was somewhere around 15 or 16 straight undefeated seasons. /forum/smile.gif Other than that, no game has taken me like that until I grabbed Need For Speed: High Stakes a few months back. For a whole month, I could barely put it down (ok, I couldn't put it down at all). BBA 09-17-1999, 09:10 PM The original Lands of Lore. MrEd 09-17-1999, 09:36 PM P O N G ! ! ! ! Ruled!!!! Then there was Asteroids, yeah! -MrEd /forum/smile.gif [This message has been edited by MrEd (edited 09-17-99).] chipbgt 09-17-1999, 09:57 PM Super dodge ball for the NES. I would almost pee my pants playing that game with my friends as a little kid. That game was so awesome. I wonder what a simple game like that would be like on a n64 or dreamcast...hmm. i would buy em. Eli 09-17-1999, 10:21 PM Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Super Mario Kart (SNES version, not MK64), Final Fantasy 3, and Warcraft 2. That's about all that immediately comes to mind... welsh wizard 09-18-1999, 03:54 AM Mr Ed, Man I forgot about pong, that thing took the pubs over back in the U.K. used to have to wait for hours just to get on the machines and put your 2 bob in for about 5 minutes of game then th e landlord made you go to back of line to play again. MrEd 09-18-1999, 04:36 AM Oh, man. With all the games that are being re-made, I wish they'd bring back that one!!! -MrEd /forum/smile.gif welsh wizard 09-18-1999, 07:34 AM MrEd You could always check around some garage sales, who knows some one might have an old Atari system with it on cartridge an old 800 or even 130XE (no I haven't forgotten the 1200 or the 800XL's)you might get it for a couple of bucks, on my Newel256KXL i sometimes still plug in the odd cartridge when I don't need to blow an eprom. still have some fun with River Raid,Quix, and so on.Just remebered one Digger Dan trying to escape the spiders and ghost! Teris was my favorite untill Strife came out in I think '94. lost1 09-18-1999, 09:44 AM The first version of Wizardry on my old Apple II kept me hooked to my greenscreen like a junkie! It was text based, but also had still-graphics. The original Battlezone was way cool in the late 70's-early 80's. I plunked many a quarter into arcade machines on that one. Anyone know where I can get it for the PC? a Bill 09-18-1999, 10:23 AM Adventure was my first favorite, then Wizardry. Joel Kleppinger 09-18-1999, 01:13 PM chipbgt: I have to hand it to you. Super Dodge Ball was the best game to ever hit the NES system. Though I never had an NES, I can remember going over to friend's houses and making them rent that game. /forum/smile.gif Now, if a remade version of that would just come out on PC.... Oh well, now I've got to go dig up an emulator or something. /forum/wink.gif KillerBug 09-18-1999, 08:13 PM lost1 - I believe it was the first M$ entertainment pack(back when there was no WIN9X to spit out over and over again) Although this will be altered by socolgal, try out some real old ***** pages. That was just a great game. I still play it all the time. Shnikey JerseyJoe 09-20-1999, 12:58 AM On the pc my old time favorites are Wizardry and Civilization. Also, I liked the board games Call of Cthulhu and Red Bear, White Moon. bringspeed 09-23-1999, 05:20 AM breath of fire, cept for the one part where they made you screw around building experience by imposing a toll that made you fight hundreds of monsters to pay, thus rainsing your experience points so you could compete in the rest of the game. about the only part i didn't enjoy imensely. the original zelda is great, but i never did beat it. castlevania on snes. super mario rpg, the first time anyway. got old, and stupid, quick. jedi knight, though it's not too old. myst. WAY better than riven. riven was made harder by taking half the clues away from the puzzles. not fun. super mario cart, snes, first game i ever played. i got GOOD at that too, dead shot with greenie turtle shells, prefered them to red ones. super mario world, didn't stop playing till igot it to say 96 levels, got a star beside it too, still not sure how i did it, played the game the same as all the other times. warcraft 2. also not too old. the original Mortal Kombat, it just felt alot more arcadey, and fun. but what was up with that gray stuff that flew off people when you hit them? /forum/smile.gif papalion 09-23-1999, 07:56 PM Q-bert Plaster 09-24-1999, 02:32 AM Fighters Megamix (Sega Saturn.) The table version. Cause it was possible to put several pitchers on that baby . Hi-chee-wah-wah! Time does fly by!!!!! And I have fond memories of bombing the hell out of virtual Europe (sorry my EU friends) with "Flying Fortress" on the Intellivision system. "Bombs away...". It was a clunker, but oh what fun! Was very disappointed when Prince of Persia II came out this year. No way to make the original any better! orkboss 01-26-2000, 07:40 AM Thinking way back ... Dungeon Master on the Amiga, not good by todays standards of course but at the time I loved it. For PC game I think Ultima Underworld II. I played this round a friends. I wouldn't mind getting hold of it now. stylin19 01-26-2000, 07:50 AM Donkey Kong ayuen 01-26-2000, 08:26 AM My favourite oldies were for the C64. Games like Ultima III, Pool of Radiance and that whole slew of SSI D&D series, Archon. And other arcade-type games like joust clones (Pegasus). Sword of Fargoal. JeffD78 01-26-2000, 09:34 AM There was one I used to play on BBSs called Legend of the Red Dragon, a text based RPG. Can't forget the Megatraveller series for PC, or the old Deathtrack. Sierra's Space Quest, Police Quest, Quest for Glory, Leisure Suit Larry, King's Quest. The Original Star Control and Star Control 2 (3 kinda sucked). Oh yeah, can't forget my dad's copy of Strip Poker that I found when I was 13!!! Wheeeee! Zotzmein 01-26-2000, 10:30 AM Deadline - text game by Infocom (all the text Zorks) Alternate Reality (for the Atari 800) - first time I saw a first person 3D perspective game. Questron – similar to Ultima Yar’s Revenge for the Atari 2600 Pong II – Looks like the original Pong but features a compartment for battery operation. In essence it was portable, you could take it over to a friends house and hook it up very easily. Regards, Zotz Mein Smellfunny 01-26-2000, 10:39 AM Starcraft and Civ2 have eaten more of my life away than I care to admit. DaveLewis 01-26-2000, 01:18 PM The old Infocom text games were great - A Mind Forever Voyaging, Leather Goddesses of Phobos - all of them were well written and fun. I even found them to run on my old TI-99. Now that's ancient history. Axel 01-26-2000, 02:50 PM Oldest PC game was one written for APPLEIIe called 'code of hamurabi' - mostly text based ruler of the domain type strategy stuff. Then - defender star gate star castles space invaders and final fantasy I & II for NES Lately, I can't stop playing alpha centauri - I'd describe it as future RISK on steroids in 3D - for the PC, and you can load the entire game so you don't access the CD - awesome graphics. Haven't networked it yet. Only finished the game 8 or 9 times so far. SysOpt.com
