Can I overclock Intel Pentium 300 MHz which is used with Intel AL440LX Motherboard and if so by how much without overdoing things
PC.is mainly used for video capture and editing.

Thanks Dave N.

You wont be able to overclock it on an LX based motherboard (unless its an unlocked cpu, which I doubt). You will need to get a BX based motherboard (preferablly one with softmenu, much easier). I recommend Abit boards (BH6, BX6, BE6, BF6, etc.). I had a klamath p2-300 (which reminds me, do you know if its an older .35 fab or .25? One way to find this out is check the voltage, if its 2.8 its the older model, 2.0 its the newer model) which would do 374 pretty easily. I have seen alot of people with .25 fab p2-300's getting 450 easily. It all depends on which fab you've got, and your cooling.

You can on some (I think the Abit LX6 had an 75 and 83 FSB)
However, any Intel motherboard will NOT let you overclock by changing Busspeeds no matter what board you get
If you processor is multiplier unlocked, you may still be able to clock it up there!

The MB is going to be a prblem for OC as others have stated.
FYI i have (2) PEE2-300 2.0V .25u Sspec SL2W8.. one runs at 450MHz and the other at 504MHz..(its due to difference in cache chips, i visually verified this)

Check the markings on the cpu and tell us what you got. It may be worth considering a BX motherboard if you got a CPU with hoochschpa! didnt have a chance at spelling that http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

What is the spec on the processor. If it is SL2W8 it has a good shot of hitting 450(SL2W8 is a Dechutes core clocked down to 300.)
The only thing that will hold you back is your l2 cache speed. The only way to find that out is to open up the casing on the processor(the sl2w8 had 4 different speeds of l2 cache used during its production to my knowledge)

Thanks everyone,

The only markings found on processor are as follows :- B80522P300512E SL20C.

Hope this is the info required.

Thanks. DaveN.

I think you mean SL2QC....If so, here is data on that sucker.... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif http://developer.intel.com/design/pentiumII/qit/database/SL2QC.htm
Sorry man its a 2.8V (klamath) heater.. It may OC a little but not a good chance at making 450MHz. I would just keep what you got and save your $$ for a full upgrade, New MB and CPU.
