i have an asus board. how much can i oferclock my cpu? I have been told that amd chips can be overclocked as much as 50% is this true?

This is sometimes true, but they are referring to the lower rated cpu's (such as 266, 300, 350, etc.). The 450's cant always get 500, but will do 475 pretty easily. The k6-2 core kind of maxes out at 500 (on average, there are exceptions).

It can go to 500 easily. Some even got it to 525 and even 550@2.7-2.9Vcore. Old chips such as the old 486's, K5's, K6's, P54, P55MMX, can be also be overclocked successfully.

All you need is patience.
