I added a user (me) and it shows my name to log off,The cd that he gave me says for evaluation purposes only. do I have to dump this and reinstall 98?

To get your name in there is simply a matter of editing one of the .ini files. But whether you want to get a registered copy of 98 is up to you.

Time to consult the patron saints of ethics. Answer these simple questions to cleanse you aching conscience:
Do you know for sure that <someguy> doen't have this copy of Win98 installed on another machine?
Does the copy that's installed on the laptop *really* belong to you if you don't have the boot disks/CDROM?
If you answer NO to either of these questions, it's time to ante up for another "street legal" copy.
Just my $0.02!

Such things are listed in the registry. MY advice is to get a win98 upgrade CD. These things act ike the full version if you have a old win95 cd for the intall prog to check... so "street legal" at half the price and ... all is good.
