My mobo gives options from 1 to 15 with a default of 8. I think my L2 cache is what is holding me back from higher oc, so what is the best setting for this?

15 is off, 1 is perfection. Try 10, if that does not get the right speed, bring it down to 7, it will actualy be rather fast.

I am not sure I understand. If 15 is off, this would allow the highest oc, right?(even though it would be sluggish) So to increase mhz, I need to increase L2 latency??

l2 latency for a p2(for sure) and probably a p3 can only be set to 8. anything over 8 and you have disabled the l2 cache. maybe the celerons have latencies set over 8 but 8 is the max for my p2 and prob p3 too.

Ok, but I still don't understand, Will a setting of eight or one allow me to run my chip at a higher mhz?

1 is fast 8 is slower the higher number sometimes allows you to raise your Mhz. Voltage and memory have alot to do with it too. Change L2 and run norton System info it will clearly show you the difference between different settings. Sometimes changing your L2 to a higher setting to get more Mhz is slower then less Mhz and a lower L2 setting.

Thanks for the reply. I kinda thought that was the way it worked but I was confused. Right now I have it set at one and am getting 617 out of my p3450. I tried increasing it, and it seems to let me go higher(623,630) but I still get lockups. I guess 617 at one is the best I can get.
