I am about to buy a new mobo and chip. Decided to go with Slot 1 with a sloket and Celeron PPGA. Which is best for overclocking. Want one that is good quality and is fairly cheap. Also would like to know which 366 PPGA Celron is best for overclocking. On pricewatch.com you can get them for $34. Are retail chips better for overclocking? Thanks.

The motherboard part is easy, get an Abit BE6 or whatever is the most up-to-date Abit motherboard available when you buy. The processor decision is all based on your aptness for gambling. My understanding is that the current Cel366 are fairly able to o'c to 550. That is good news for you, b/c you can buy the $34 Cel366 and get 550 MHz. You can buy a rated Cel366 @ 550 MHz for $100+, if you don't want to gamble, but a rated chip. But, if you think about it, you can try up to three chips (assuming you don't return them) for the same price. Most places will let you return for a 15% restocking fee, letting you try even more CPUs. Of course buying a CPU, shipping it back and orfering another is a hassle, but ti saves you money. Let us know what you decide.

I just set up a 366 Celery from http://www.step-thermodynamics.com/. Its warrentied to go 550 and it does. Its comes w/dual fans

You might try the Soyo BA6+III Or IV. These boards make excelent Celron overclockers because of the 90 & 95mhz front side bus settings.
If your chip is unhappy at 550, try 522, and if that that doesent work, you can still run 495mhz.
May not be quite what you wanted, but it's still pretty fast for the buck!

I just got the new be6-rev2 and it is a very nice board. has a FSB of 66 & 100 but has a user difined range anywhere between 66&200 in steps of 1! nice. And has a hardware monitoring slot that you can put a temp reader which is supplied and run a prog that will warn you if the temp gets too hot on that particular device. But I too am wanting to get a cel 366 which is best slot 1 or ppga converted? to slot 1?
