I have a K6-3 450 @500 w/2.8 vcore on a fic 503A 2mg L3. Lapping, an alpha w/27cfm fan, silver paste, and a 80 mm case fan blowing at alpha enable this 500 which runs cool according to Sandra ( 18C - 28C) and is very stable. I thought about replacing my 128 mg of pc100 with pc133. Any one able to go higher than 500 with this chip?

The 256kb of L2 cache on the chip will probably hold it back.

Try this one and go into the cpu database: www.overclockers.com (http://www.overclockers.com)

Quit while you're still ahead, most of the
rest of us can't get our K6-3's above 475mhz
at any voltage...

525 now with pc133... ( 5.5 x 95 ) this might be the upper limits without extreme cooling.

Most k6 series chips will never make it above 525 due to level once cache limitations. When AMD releases the k6-2+ in Q1 2000 we'll have a better chance. This cpu will be built on the .18 micron die size (unlike .25 now) plus have an on chip 128kb level 2 cache. I haven't heard any future plan for the k6-3, but preliminary data show that the k6-2+ could be avaible in clocks speeds over 600mhz by using remapped multipliers.

Also good news for super7 owners on the chipset side. VIA is to release a new 133mhz fsb capable supoer7 chipset. It should incorporate such things as ata-66 and agp 4x. Looks like our socket 7 days aren't dead yet.

we have the K6-3 system as well as the athlon mod to do 650+...funny tho..at 500..the K6-3 benches higher =) Altho the athalon is great..i still like the supewr7 platform.
