Is there a way to find out what speed the cache chips are on my New P3 450 WITHOUT ripping of the retail heatsink and case? Such as thru the manufacturing number?(BX80525U450512ESL37C) or the FPO/Batch #(99370476-0484) or even the version # (731090-002)

Thanks for your help!

wish there was a simpler way of doing it but I had to rip the case off to find out(after that removing the clips was the hard part). but if you have an sl35d or sl37c chances are you have cache that can reach 300mhz so oclocking the chip to 600 shouldn't be a prob for the cache. I've seen programs that give you some decent info on the cache but none tells you the actually nanoseconds of the cache. i'll search around and if I find any info I'll send it your way.

Thanks Big! I really was happy when the chip arrived (from the VA deal!) and saw that it was a SL37C chip as I too have seen many reports showing these chips hitting the 600mhz and + mark /forum/smile.gif I right now have mine clocked to 558mhz@ 2.0v with the retail heatsink and fan. I think I might have problems though with my AGP (voodoo3 3000) on the 133mhz buss as my Abit BX6-2 board only offers 1:1 or 2:3 setting for the AGP /forum/frown.gif
Thanks again for your willingness (spelling) to help find a "easy" way to find out the cache chip speed. (I have a p3-125 alpha on order and until it arrives I dont want to tear the chip apart.

oh you are soooooo lucky. I too was gonna go to VA to buy my cpu but was unsure what s code I was gonna get. did you get the cpu with the $100 off and then the extra 20 off too. that's a pretty good deal. hundred some odd dollars for a chip that supposed to do 600 pretty easily. From what I hear the v3 cards also have a pretty good chance of getting 133fsb. probably at 2.05 or 2.1 volts and you'd be strolling around the 600 mark. good luck (but I see that lady luck is already looking over you). I've seen a bunch of these sl37c 's hitting nearly 700mhz on overclockers.com.

Well before I headed off to work (thats where I am right now) I got my 450 up to 579! at 2.0v. Check it out (http://www.aros.net/~mntsnow/benchmarks.html)

I also found out that my Abit motherboard WILL NOT measure the "internal" temp of the P3 CPU without doing some surgury /forum/frown.gif So I'm holding off on pushing the 600 mark until the alpha gets here! (I also now have zipped tied a fan to the vid card heatsink to help it out..The temp on it dropped almost 18*F just with a 486 fan)

awesome 579 at 2.0 is pretty good. if you don't mind, I too am considering buying a p3 450 and was wondering how much the VA deal ran you plus shipping and handling. there's a store around my area that sells p3 450 for about 187. Is the VA deal cheaper.

The chip cost me exactly $125.95 With Standard UPS ground shipping /forum/biggrin.gif and I live in UTAH.

To Mntsnow,
If your AGP card is 2x, then set the bios to one speed and set the divider to 1:1. I think it should work. Of course I could be wrong and cook your g-card. You could always operate the AGP slot on he PCI bus I suppose.
