I just tried to o/c my 600 MHz last night. I'm am using an Abit BE6 mombo. I went into the SoftMenu and upped the FSB to 112 MHz (1/3). When I rebooted it identified the processor as a 672 MHz which is good but then it didn't count the ram. It just stop and hung after displaying the processor. I then backed it down to 110 MHz and then even 105 MHz. Same thing. I have PC100 memory but benchmarks show it as the weak point in my computer. Could it be that the memory can't handle the small o/c of 105 MHz FSB?
Thanks,
Bob

Cooling is there. I am a little hazy on upping the voltage. What do you recommend?
Thanks,

First you should try 2.05 and the 2.1 and last 2.2v.
Donīt go above 2.2v, but always be sure to keep and eye on the temperature.
~edit
Well, if that wasnīt what you meant i still think you should try out some other memory.

All PC100 can do AT LEAST 110mhz. So it's bullocks to say that the problem is your memory. Besides that you have options in the bios to slow down your memory (Cas-to-Ras, Sdram Wait States etc.). It's the voltage that you need to increase. Don't think increasing the voltage a bit will damage your cpu right the first time. It's actually pretty hard to accomplish that with only 2.2 or 2.3V . You will know soon enough when your cpu can't run on the particular speed you trie. If the voltage trick won't make your cpu boot into windows and run for a while, than don't bother spending any money on bigger heatsinks or the like. You may need to set your hd to pio-4 (disabling UDMA) if you get above 105 or 110mhz busspeed.

Actualy, I found a P2-450 that was sold to me that ran at 2.2 got unstable after only about 1 month.

Try disabling the halt on Cpu speed in your bios? That maybe an option!!!!!!!!!

I donīt think so. Maybe you got an unlucky chip thaat just wonīt overclock. You could try to add cooling and up the voltage in the SoftBIOS.
But just to be sure that itĻs not the ram, try some other.

Well I upped the voltage and that did the thing. Well kind of
.
I went right for 112 with 2.20v. That got me passed the memory count and EIDE auto detection but then I got the halt on Cpu speed error. It took me a couple minutes to figure this out and disabled that function.
At 112-2.20v it got passed the memory count and EIDE detection but then it would hang right before the HPT 366 bios screen. I backed the FSB down to 110 with 2.10v and rebooted it started to load Win98 but I got a VDX error so I tried 110 with 2.20v and when it started Win98 it had to recover the registry. I backed the FSB down to 105 with 2.10v and everything is working fine. 630 MHz is ok with me. I will let it run for a while then look at the 66UDMA settings and see if I can tweak those to get at least 110 FBS.
Thanks for all of your help.
