It's not the age - it's the milage that counts - and, after being sick the last 3 weeks, I've seen lots of milage.....

Welcome Alpha!!

I just find that people take me less seriously when they know my age and people seem to slowly drift away.....

Alpha - I had that problem when I was a kiddie too http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif. Nobody took me seriously, not friends, nor family, nor teachers.

I proved them wrong by changing the password the the network manager account on my skewl network, and increasing my quota just a little bit http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif.

They took notice then http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif. After that, I had no end of questions and people seeking advice from me, I even started teaching the teachers how to use Pagemaker(it's moved on a little bit now!). I even went straight on to do all the DTP on the school magazine, which I couldn't believe as I was only 12!!!

Some of us have been there and seen it all first hand(the age thing) and don't judge others by the same standard we were judged. If ya click with computers, and enjoy them, then it makes no difference just how old you are does it.........

I'm 13.
I designed my Dad's company's commercial presentation, almost finished their website and I may be designing one for one of the people his company deals with. I also cleared the school computers of a virus infection of CDEF and nVIR (macs). I've built my computer (three times, same computer http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif at the age of 12) and I could use a DOS command line at the age of around 6 or 7. Of course, that was on my PC-XT. Hey, it was the 640kb model, very swish. If I can design the website and presentation for my dad's company deal with type person, I might build a dual Celeron box for Linux and NT dual boot.
Oh, I NetBus'ed a network I was on once http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Can't believe you were so similar to me, Rich.

Hey Alpha! Good job bro. Sounds you have quite a history. My friends take me seriously, but when I was 16, I didnt think any employer would. Got my first comp that was totally mine at around 9? I think (486/33Mhz MONSTER http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif). Win3.1 was too confusing for me http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif. I wish I had more background in comps..It seems alot of my friends have dad's or family friends who work for a company and occasionally bring home comp or parts every now and then. I have no relatives that are in any technological field whatsoever...and probably wouldnt have ever found out I liked comps if it werent for Sysopt, and would never be able to explorer my field of intrest.
It all starts somewhere.

Thanks man!
When I mean I could use dos at the age of 6, I mean delete stuff, delete folders, make folders, create folders ( I'm too lazy to typ D I I R E C T O R I E S http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif), run stuff and the like. Oh, I could format stuff, but FDISK was slightly alien.
My first completly mine computer - Dell 486 DX4 100 - from a skip http://www.sysopt.com/forum/redface.gif!! I had a good 2.1g HDD (WD) which I still have. Of course, this was just last year. I had the floppy drive till today, when it broke (I've repaired it like millions of times).

The school virus thing was groovy. I got to be in complete control of the school computers for awhile (mac se's). It was a ***** to get off. One of the macs wouldn't start unless you completly removed all ADB devices and reinserted o startup - slowly killing the machines. The virus had spawned new varients of itself. Good excuse to miss class http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

The only person in my family with even a slight backround in computers is my mum. She worked on COBOL mainframe for a year or two. Knows nothing much about dos and ziltch about windows or linux. They used GCOS - General Computer Operating System ROFL http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Sh**, I'd better stop - I'm giving people my life story...

Alpha - age is completely irrelevant on places like this. I'd have put you around 16/17/18 - that was one hell of a shock!!

Maybe nappy-senior would be more appropriate http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Seriously, it makes no difference to me about yer age. you know more at 13 than I did at 16 or even 20!!

Did you get my email about the shop?

Thanks. Some of this is a kind of reply to a mail, so please don't toast me, soclagal http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
I got the mail. I might hold off the K6-2 for a while; my future has opened up the option for a Coppermine 500E http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif!!

If I don't get the coppermine (i'd be getting it in around one and a half months), I'll shoot for the K6-2.

I'd go for those 366's as well.
I'd join RC5 IF my machine had a net connection. If I have spare dough, I'll fork for a 33.6k modem.

And remember - it's Senior Alpha to you! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

That's great to be this into it at your age, Alpha, you too, Rich!
