Yes tell her to use Netmeeing 3.01. I have used it many time with a video camera and a capture card. It is free and works great.
When you installor (or run it the first time can't remember what one) netmeeting it will set up the mic and video for you.
The biggest problem is finding an ILS server that is not always busy. I think there is a site called netmeeting.com where you can find a list of servers.I will check. You do not need video, sound or a mic to use netmeeting. I would advise her to get a combination headphone/mic(no feedback)if she does not have dam can't think of it.
As for the pic and sound quality it is awesome for me but I have a cable modem.
here are some links for you http://www.netmeet.net/ this site has a list of the best ILS servers here. (http://www.netmeet.net/bestservers.asp?Sorted=Y)
and here is Microsofts page (http://directory.netmeeting.microsoft.com/MoreInfo/nmMoreInfo2.htm) about netmeeting.

Thank-you very much for the information and your quick reply, I really appreciate it.
The links you provided were good ones. They gave me enough information that I think it's pretty clear now how this works. I'll give another yell if I get stuck.

A friend of mine wants me to set up her computer so that she can see and talk to her family and friends in Australia to cut down on her phone bill. She bought one of those Avermedia Intercams (usb) and has it installed (she thinks, LOL), but she needs a microphone added and the software loaded. I have never had any experience with these cameras and have a couple of questions.

Do these cameras use different communication software that must be compatable for 2 cameras to be able to communicate?
Could something like MS netmeeting be used, and could cameras from different manufactures be able to work?
I havent been to her house yet, but if I add a microphone to her sound card, will the software that came with her camera be able to syncronize the sound and picture?
I also would like to know what would be a real easy camera to install on the Australian computer because I will not be able to go there and help. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

Like I said, I know nothing about these things. I have explained that the picture and sound quality will not be very good, but she doesn't care, her phone bill is huge!

I appreciate any insight you could give me on this subject.

Glad I could help.
