I HAVE A CLASSIC P133 O/C@166 AND FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND ALL P133s CAME WITH A HEAT SINK ONLY,NO FAN THE HEAT SINK I HAVE SEAMS TO WORK VERY GOOD BUT ITS HARD TO TELL AFTER TWO OR THREE HOURS OF QUAKE2 I CAN TOUCH THE BOTTOM OF THIS MASSIVE HEAT SINK AND ITS JUST LUKE WARM.WELL IPURCHASED A HEAT SINK WITH A FAN FOR A 486 BECAUSE THEY ARE SMALL AND I WAS GOING TO TAKE THE HEAT SINK OFF AN USE THE FAN FOR MY VOODOO3,WELL THAT WORKED FINE AND ACTUALY COOLED MY VOODO CARD TO THE TOUCH BUT I WAS SCREWIN AROUND AND MY HEAT SINK CAME OF OF MY 133 SO I DECIDED TO PUT THE 486 HEATSINK BACK ON THE FAN AND TRY IT INSTEAD AND I STUCK A BUNCH OF HEATSINK COMP.ON IT WELL THE FAN DOES BLOW OF SOME HOT AIR BUT WITH THE FAN ON THE HEAT SINK THERE IS NOT A PLACE FOR ME TO ACTUALY PUT MY FINGER ON IT TO CHECK TEMP. UNFORTUNEATLY I DONT HAVE A TEMP SENSOR BUILT IN.
SO HOW CAN I DECIDE WICH IS BETTER TO USE?
THANKS FOR ANY INPUT

Perhaps your overclocking has fused your CapsLock button? /forum/smile.gif

If i got that right, you have the 486 HSF on the CPU right now.
I would use the fan on the V3 card. The proc will be allright, but then again fans are not that expensive so you could buy another and have one on the CPU and one on the V3.

dominus im crackin up HAAHAH /forum/biggrin.gif As for the problem, you should invest in a nice decent heatsink/fan combo (which is only $20 US at computernerd.com, come on, check in your couch cushions youll find it). JUST a heatsink without a fan USUALLY isnt a good idea, but some heatsinks are very well made and disperse(cant spell) the heat great. for $20 it wouldnt hurt you to buy a new big heatsink and fan, to save your dilemma.

thanks for the info. I will put the fan back on the vd3 card because I just o/ced it to 166 from 143 so it needs it and I will look for a good heat sink and fan combo.but I may go ahead and get a new mobo and proccesor becaus I cant do alot with this computer unless I get a overdrive kit from evergreen. A guy at a computer shop said that it would boost my pc from a 166 to a 333 but I find that hard to belive especialy considering that it cost 230$ Icould get a good mobo for that and Id be half way to a sweet pc .
does anyone know about these evergreen products ? are they any good?
anyway thanks for the info.
mabey one day Ill know as much as you guys and ill be able to help you out but i doubt it
Thanks

if i where you i would get a new mobo case and chip, that could EASLY be done for under 230, and you could get a 433 celry, and o/c it my .02$

Just because your heatsink was cool doesn't mean it's Ok. It's actually probably a bad thing to have a cool heat sink because it means that the thermal contact between it and the cpu ain't 100%
