The 2.9v is crazy I know, but the chip feels cool to the touch and the heatsink is kinda cool. I have a large heatsink and fan using thermal paste also. I have another fan blowing on the cpu and motherboard. I plan to get a large case fan this week. I know that is extremely high, but the think is that I feel that the chips are kinda cheap now. I was wanting to know how long the chip might actually last at this voltage, meaning like days, weeks, months, year? And besides the chip melting possibly will it hurt anything else. I have been palying Quake 2 and it hasn't crashed and neither has win98. So, heat would make it crash wouldn't it? I hope someone can answer some of these questions for me. Thanks

2.9 volts is really high, but if you think youve got enuf money to replace it, congrats with 500 mhz k6-2.

I did it for a while at 2.9, but I kept it really cool, just above room temperature. I also ran it all the way up to 3.2 using my water cooler, but I only ran the voltage up that high to test it. I know a few people who run them at 2.9, and have for several months. So far so good.

If I could keep the water temperature at 50% then I can do it at 2.7 rock stable.

2.9 uh, ****, I had to go to 2.5 for 450 on mine but was leary of the 2.9. I have 4 extra fans and therma paste and heatsink fan. I might tryit /forum/smile.gif Hopefully It will work for me too.

Is there a program to monitor the chip temp?

ck42866 - the L1 cache on the K6-2 is maxed out before you get to 550mhz. I do not rule out the possibility, but I have not heard of any K6-2s running stable at 550mhz.

Got mine at 450 right now. Had to go to 2.6 volts for that or Norton Crashguard kept comming up. gonna see what that does for now. Will get me a few more Blocks cracked anyway /forum/smile.gif

Well 500mhz will not work anymore at 2.9v that is, so I moved down just slightly too 2.8v with 450mhz. It is weird that 500mhz ran fine for about an hour then I rebooted and now it will not even get to the splashscreen for Win98. But 450 is stable at 450, and Wintune says that it is running at 461mhz, even though the setting is 450. So, it is all good I guess, I plan to get a case fan in the next couple of days to help a little more.
