Hi,

I just wanted to share my experience overclocking this chip.

I use a Gigabyte GA-5AX, 64mb PC100 ram and Ati Rage Fury 32mb video. The actual speed is 110x4.5 at 2.6v, making it 495 mhz. This is the fastest stable speed that I can get.

I have tried 100x5 and 105x4.5, was stable but the benchmarks are lower. The bus speed seems to be the most important thing, 105x4.5 is much faster than 100x5 and runs at 2.4v.

It is important to burn in the processor first at cas 3, then when fully stabilized go to cas 2.

It won't run stable at 115 fsb, probably due to the video card I use.

My overclocking experience of the K6-2 450 is similar to yours, Chesy. I got mine to 500MHz on a Soyo 5EMA+ with 100MHz fsb, 5.0x, and 2.7v. With 128Mb PC100 SDRAM & a Voodoo 3, it rocks!
I tried the 112MHz fsb but it wouldn't fly, no matter what mult or voltage I used. Before & after CPU benchmarks on SANDRA Pro showed an increase of about 110 MIPS after OC, so it obviously works.
Sure wish I could have nailed 550 though...;-)

I tried my K6-2 450 at 500 (100x5) at 2.5v but it was a no go, need better cooling before I bump it to 2.6 or 2.7. Peltier and a second case fan at least. Maybe a card cooler too...

Hi,

Just got an Alpha heatsink and fan from www.3dfxcool.com and made the IDE cables round to help air flow.

Managed to get it up to 518Mhz=115x4.5 at 2.6v. I think this is the maximum stable speed for my processor.

Anyone has other expiriences at higher speeds?

Chesy- I seriously doubt that anyone has made a K6-III go anyfaster than that. You are only a handful of Mhz away from the limit of the cache on the chip! (i.e. 520 mhz or so). Congratulations!

can someone explain the CAS memory thign to me?
