Collision 08-21-1999, 06:37 PM where did u get that number (37333 & 46666) ? sunman 08-21-1999, 06:45 PM doesn't matter if you still download at the same speed. chad174 08-21-1999, 07:03 PM i dont download as fast now, i get like 1k/sec less, and i got that number from kbps, like 56k, 46k, 37.3k, so on... Sterling_Aug 08-21-1999, 08:04 PM Try this: 1.) Go to "my computer" 2.) Click on Dial up networking 3.) Right click on "my connection" and scroll down to properties 4.) Under "connect using" click on configure 5.) Click on the Connection tab 6.) Click on Port Settings 7.) Move the recieve buffer bar all the way to the right for the highest setting 8.) Click on OK until you have all of the windows closed. 9.) Go back into my computer again 10.) Click on Control Panel 11.) Click on network 12.) Click on Dial up Adapter 13.) Click on properties 14.) Click on Advanced 15.) Click on IP packet size 16.) Select small 17.) Click on OK until you have closed all of the windows. Restart the computer for the new settings to take effect. This should make your connect and downloads as fast as possible. If "small" IP packet size does not make it faster, try other IP packet sizes until you find the best for your system. chad174 08-21-1999, 10:30 PM ive done all that stuff...it doesn't work...would it have anything to do with the fact that it is a winmodem?? Sterling_Aug 08-21-1999, 10:43 PM Have you tried removing the modem and installing it again from scratch. clough 08-21-1999, 11:21 PM Go to this page.It should help somewhat http://www.tweak3d.net/tweak/modem/ chad174 08-22-1999, 03:58 AM ive done all of that stuff guys clough 08-22-1999, 11:29 AM Well......It's time to buy a new modem then.I got a US Robotics model# 5685 voice/fax.I connect at 52kbs ALL THE TIME and in the morning like now when traffic is low I get maxed at 53333.The best modem I ever had.Go here and check it out. http://www.3com.com/client/pcd/products/prod-voice5685-int.html Collision 08-22-1999, 12:17 PM My advice is : 1. remove the multiple devices that build up when changing drivers and hardware. 2. Defrag ur hd, 'cuz sometimes if ur hd fragmented, it'll slow overall system performance. sunman 08-22-1999, 03:07 PM this guy is using a winmodem. i don't know much about the real diff. between a winmodem and a normal ext. dialup modem. anyway i heard one friend say that winmodem utilise the system resources more maybe the new harddisk isn't optimised and hence the slow down ... (umm, why don't you get a new USB modem) (^o^) [This message has been edited by sunman (edited 08-23-99).] chad174 08-22-1999, 04:40 PM thats what i was thinking sunman...it came with this comp, and now i got a new hd not the one that came with it, and its 9kbps slower??sounds like a winmodem prob to me..
