First off, if your looking for a great advance in MHZ you'll be pissed. The 450 can only do around +25 MHZ. So you'll get up to 475, 472. I tryed 500 and it wouldn't even post AT ALL. I'd get the 400 chip it can do 450. Also on my DCS board I could o/c at 2.2 volts then I bught an ASUS board and had to go to 2.6 volts. If you get higher than 475 let me know. Mike H. 08-05-1999, 07:19 PM Without water-cooling it is hard to overclock the K6-X CPU's to 500. But you will have better luck using an alpha heatsink. Make sure to get one with the highest flow of air thru the fan. Here are some places you can get them. http://www.micforg.co.jp/resellerlist.html I have mine running perfectly stable at 500 MHz @ 2.5V. My last processor, a K6-2 450, took 2.8v to get it to run stable. The datasheet says that the max temp is 140F and the max voltage is 2.6. It is up to you if you want to risk damaging your processor by exceding the specs of the chip. I feel that you can counter the effects of the higher voltage by reducing the temp 15-20 F for every 0.1v. The reason being is, there is a greater temperature difference between where heat is being produced and where it is being removed. I can not prove this though, it is just a hypothesis. The place that can't get hot are all the little pathways in the CPU. If they do they could melt. I hope you understand what I am trying to say. Good Luck and happy computing Mike H. I've got a k6-2-266 running at 450 with a peltier, and It can post and boot at 500, but crashes of course. I believe you can easily hit 500 using these nice little gadgets.
