I'm running a Cyrix 233 MII MX on a Gigabyte GA5-AX mobo and have been experimenting with overclocking. I wanted to share my results for those who are running Cyrix cpu. The normal settings for this cpu are 75 mhz x2.5 at 2.9v. I set it at 75 mhz x3 @2.9v. Here are the results of the first test.
WinTune 98 Test ResultsWinTune 98 performed on 5/21/99 11:47:58 AM .It ran very stable at that setting. The reason I decided to try another setting, was that the FSB was only 60 mhz, APG 60 mhz, and PCI 30 mhz so the rest of the board was underclocked.
CPU(1) Cyrix 6x86@225 MHz [Actually a Cyrix MII 233 MX now showing on the boot screen as 300 mhz. Benchmark in Nuts and Bolts shows it as a 284 mhz.]
Area TestedValue
CPU Integer 570.9614 MIPS
CPU Floating Point 181.3257 MFLOPS
Video(2D) 36.77635 MPixels/s
Direct3D 71.35868 MPixels/s
OpenGL 5.201154 MPixels/s
Memory 323.5244 MB/s
Cached Disk 51.57692 MB/s
Uncached Disk 0.9015836 MB/s
I finally got around to testing some different settings. This is FSB 83 mhz, cpu 83 mhz, pci bus 33 mhz, apg 66 mhz. The mobo is recognizing it as a Cyrix 333 mhz. So far so good! I don't know if it will remain stable or not. I sure hope so. I had planned to set the clock multipler at 2.5 but I forgot so it is at 3 which means this cpu is way overclocked.
CPU (1) Cyrix 6x86@251 MHz
Area Tested Value
CPU Integer 635.3662 MIPS
CPU Floating Point 202.1414 MFLOPS
Video(2D) 42.62632 MPixels/s
Direct3D 69.36091 MPixels/s
OpenGL 5.607787 MPixels/s
Memory 356.9667 MB/s
Cached Disk 58.10483 MB/s
Uncached Disk 0.9021543 MB/s
It seems fine at these settings. I hope the information will the the others of you that are running the much malined "*******" cyrix cpu. I do plan someday soon to change to a one of the faster processors but I have had fun learning with this cheap one.
