IBM...hands down.

The new 7200RPM Western Digital HDs are very similar to the IBM 7200RPM. WD actually worked with IBM to develop this drive series. The advantage: a lot cheaper! These are great drives.

Neo/kec95:
Can the 7200rpm IBM drives handle 83Mhz fsb with DMA enable?
I have a 5400rmp IBM Deskstar which needs dma switched off or crash... burn... disk error results

I am going to try to run a 7200 expert 9.1 g at 83 mhz with a swiftnet C466@580. the WD expert drives have 2mb buffer the IBM drives only have 512k. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
But what does it have to do with the stability of hard drive sharp?

i asked a tech at work and he said it is for the read ahead buffering, more stable at higher speed. hope most of that is correct ? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gifmaybe someone can explain it better than that, i hope. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Neo its even wd expert drives are even made by IBM, but WD expert has less arial density than ibm drive does. it will result slower reading speed

hi,
my friend is using a 2mb cache IBM HDD at 100mhz bus speed 300A @450mhz ..stable!
i have got a 6.4 IBM with has only 512kb cache and windows crashes while booting when i tried DMA enabled. I had to FORMAT ... i dunno anyway out. ****... so becareful once u enable DMA in windows, there might me trouble for lower end hdd.

My Celeron333 is at 416, so the bus speed is at 83mhz, and luckily, my 5400rpm IBM Deskstar works with DMA on! Though the PIO mode is at 3, but big deal! It still works great!
