i know we all dislike 'em, but one of my friends has one and he can't figure out how to hook up his printer... i went over and looked at it, but i'm not too familiar with macs.... i don't think there's anything wrong with the computer or printer, but i just don't know how to use macs....

it's a Mac Performa 6200CD Power PC
the printer is a HP DeskWriter 320

i already have it hooked up and everything, but i need to download a driver for it cuz they don't have the driver disk.... how do you set up an internet connection on a mac (specifically that type, if possible)....

i figured out the PPP connection thing, but an error occurs that says something like "the computer got an unrecognized response from the modem" or something like that... i don't know what's wrong or if anything is wrong at all....

any help would be appreciated... thank you in advance...

CujoRdb,
Depending on how recent a version of IE is on the MAC there is an IE repair function located in a utilities file on the hard drive. Also you can go to the little apple on the upper left go to control panel, modem, and set up the modem that way, in otherwords select the one you want it to use and turn it on. Additionally in the control panel you will also see internet connection setup and TCP/IP and Remote Access that are all separate and all should be or at least can be configured if need be.
Now for the printer well here's the trick
Once you get online to download the file choose a Binhex file unless you have something called "Stuffit Expander",(Apples version of WinZip)if you have to expand it do so and then open the HD go to system and drag and drop the file into "Extensions" . Once the printer is hooked up go back to the Apple thing at the top left and select "chooser" you will see the printer there and just highlight it and configure it for either background printing on or off. On spools it and allows you to continue to work while the printer is going but it is slower, off prints directly to the printer but to do anything else you have to wait till the job is done. Also depending on what type of connection you are using for the printer you will have to select apple talk active or inactive. TADA then your done...easy right? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

If you have any other trouble or questions I hang out here a lot now so feel free to ask.
Hope this helps

Sincerely

Vincent

Well What type of internet connection does he have? Modem, Lan Network? Does he have the drivers for the modem if that is the type of connection he has? Which version of Mac OS is he running?

Mntsnow

ps. I should be able to help you in the morning as I have my 3 year old son's quadra 650 (8.0 OS) and wife's old performa 450 (7.1 OS) at home with both modems and Lan network internet connections.
