Here are my specs:

Celeron 400
Abit BX6
128MB Pc-100
Diamond Viper RIVA TNT2 16MB APG
Sound Blaster PCI-128
40x Toshiba CD-Rom
IBM 10GB 5400RPM HD

I want to know if you think this system will be able to handle the 83 bus speed. If so, would i have to make any changes in the bios other than the 83 bus speed to O/C my 400 to 500???

Thank You

Try it, it should, but then again, who knows......

That's the fun of overclocking

AFAIK, of all the bus speeds (even those well over 100mhz) the 83mhz bus is by far the most difficult to obtain. Mainly because it completely stresses the limits of the PCI bus more than other bus speeds. Most likely your problem is a PCI device (including HD's).

I doubt if your IBM HD will handle the 83bus as I've returned 3 because of that http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

I just booted up from changing my 300 celeron bus speed to 83. And it is flying at
374mhz with no ill effects

Just disable the "Primary Bus Master Controller" in System first and get a clean reboot at 66Mhz or 75Mhz FSB.

Then your PC should be OK at 83Mhz FSB.
If you don't disable the Primary Bus Master first you will get a unreadable C: drive blue screen and probably disk errors.

I have a C400 and IBM DeskStar 10G HD in may setup too and it works fine. I hope you have decent cooling for your celery, 'cause the PC will lockup after a few minutes at 83 ( 498Mhz )

I have my Celeron 400A running 500 MHz @ 2.2 volts using a peltier sandwich I fabricated. I tweaked and tricked it using every idea I could find. The 83 MHz FSB speed seems to work ok for me, but then I don't have an IBM HD.

After I add a second peltier stacked on top of the first, I am going to attempt 600 MHz with the Celeron 400A.
