I mean, do they o/c better than a comparable p2? I have a 300a, and wonder if its worth 240 bucks to get a 450p3 and try for 560-600??

Steve steveakaflash 06-17-1999, 11:32 PM My 300a is at 504 Steve Hpilot 06-18-1999, 12:02 AM After running many Celeron setups, starting with the origional 266 oc'ed to 400MHz, I decided to spend more than $100.00 on a CPU and got a boxed P-III450 and am not disapointed on bit. It overclocked easily to 558 on a BH6 with the default voltage, using cheap generic PC100 ram and is more stable than any Celeron I've ever used. I think 600 would be possible with better ram but it flys now as is so why spend more money. I think this chip will become the next best choice for economy minded performance freaks as soon as the price drops more, it eats any presently available Celeron alive. cobain1crt 06-19-1999, 03:41 PM I had a celeron 300A at 450, it did 504 @ 2.2, but I do not like to go over 2.1v. I upgraded to the 450 P3, and I love it, 504 @2.0, but 558 @ 2.1! And that is with the default sink! And it is tiny, I can't wait to upgrade my sink and go to 558 @ 1.9, faster at 2.1 socalgal 06-19-1999, 04:02 PM Me too. I've got my PIII 450 @504 (112x4.5) at the default core of 2.0v, on an bios updated BX6 board. I will try going to 558 (124x4.5) sometime, just don't have the guts yet and I want to get a couple little problems taken care of first. My system's settings in theory will allow me to go to 598mhz (133x4.5) at 2.0v, but I don't think I'll try that. I'm not sufficiently comfortable to try upping the voltage yet! Do you have Motherboard Monitor and CPUIdle? They work together and display the temp in your sys tray allowing you to keep an eye on the temp. www.euronet.nl/users/darkside/mbmonitor/ (http://www.euronet.nl/users/darkside/mbmonitor/) yes cobain those sinks/fans are pretty puny aren't they. Roy 06-19-1999, 10:16 PM I've seen quite a number of PIII450s going 4.5x124=558. Speeds of 600 and more are being reported. Check the CPU survey at www.overclockers.com (http://www.overclockers.com) Scott Evans 06-21-1999, 11:03 PM Had a BH6 P-III 450, went 558/2.0v very well, no 600 even at 2.3v. Funny part is the CAS delay *had* to be set to 3 (Micron PC133), even when at 83 MHz FSB! Hmmmmm me thought, maybe this ain't the best board for doing this P-III. Just installed an MSI 6163 tonight. Kicks the snot out of the BH6 in features and performance. It will run all the bus speeds at CAS-2. Stable at 580, not quite stable at 600, probably due to OEM heatsink. Once the OEM sink is gone I'm fairly confident it'll do 600 no problem. SysOpt.com
