I would like to overclock my system, but I don't know how or if it is even possible. The CPU is an AMD K6-266. Anyone ever successfully overclock this CPU?

Anyone ever successfully overclock this CPU? sfarley 06-19-1999, 11:06 AM The K6 processor runs very hot. I overclocked on at 300 for a while, but it was making too much heat. It didn't lock up, but I doubted how long it would last. A poor man't way to check processor heat is a pocket thermometer for air conditioning. Turn your machine on, put some kind of demo on (doomII, Quake, etc.) for a specified time, perferrably 4 or more hours. Make sure that you touch the case to dissapate any static electricity, and touch the base of your cpu cooler and hold it for a couple of minutes. Take the reading. Turn the machine off and make the changes, then do the same thing again and compare the temps. I shy away from anything over 120 degrees f. Hope this helps..... CMonster 06-19-1999, 12:52 PM It should be an easy matter for you to take this CPU to 300mhz, may I suggest you begin by reading the overclockers guide; start here: http://www.sysopt.com/overcexp.html I second the heat notation - I have a K6 233 (3.2volts core)that I took to 300 for a while and it could heat the room! I runs well at 266 but still somewhat hot. Callas 06-20-1999, 12:09 AM I personally have run an AMD k6 266 @ 300 w/fan, with good results. Had boot problems @ 337. Here's a link to an article that describes setup for the 266 as used on an FIC PA2007 MB. = http://geocities.com/SiliconValley/Lab/2162/pa2007howto.html#266 top Ricardo 06-20-1999, 11:11 PM I have one K6-266 running at 333Mhz with no problems and using an ordinary cooler with thermal compound on the heatsink. The MoBo it's a very cheaper clone board known as TX-Pro II with sound and video on board. By the way, this version of K6 is a 2.2 volts and I don't change this voltage. Symes 06-21-1999, 08:01 AM It will depend upon your core voltage, earlier versions were 2.8V (I think) whilst the 'newer' were 2.2 - 2.4. I had a 2.2V version happily at 337 (5.4x75) for months berfore changing to a K6-2/350 (at 412). As has been said, watch the temperature - keep it cool. SysOpt.com
