I'm sure I've answered this poll a few times myself, but I'm wondering what everyone here does for a living. I know I could just look at the profiles, but I don't exactly have enough time for 5800+ members.

Just curious, since I finally broke down and got a computer related job this week (PC Service Tech for a nationwide corporation). I've been doing sales/marketing up until now, so this was a serious change for me.

Enough about me, on to the poll......

Glad you've found a great job/career.

I'm too embarassed to tell you guys mine.
Fact is I've been in and am still in college for the last 3 years, have no co-op job experience, have no diploma, don't have the brains for education, no really I'm not kidding you.

All I've got is a lousy job @ McDonalds. I know a lot of people that work for McD and love what their doing so I don't want to offend anyone or get them in a offensive mode, but it's just not my ideal job.
It's just not my ideal job, that's all.

Taking accounting right now, thought it was really easy, but ended up harder than ever and is very boring. I'm very interested in computers in general, both software and hardware, and stuff related to the financial industry, but just don't know what program to take.

I'm helping the family in earning some dough by doing some online trading @ stock markets thru the internet, that makes me feel a bit less useless.

My ideal job is either being a:
Accounting Clerk
Mutual Fund Investor
Day Trading on the Stock Market
Computer Hardware Technician

Everybody has an ideal job, although mine may be a bit farfetched, notheless a job.

I spend way too much time in front of the computer and just surfing away on the net. It's like a disease of mine ever since I got on the net.

What I need is a major brain transplant/overhaul/upgrade or whatever you call it.

SORRY, didn't really mean to be venting on this board and doing a life review of myself so soon.

Bye, guys.

Well my "main" job is in the data center (cold room/secure enviroment) for a international company keeping the flow of data going and of course performing backups on the systems. my "side" job is a certified Microsoft OEM systems builder and doing "odd" computer jobs for small companies that cant afford a full time I.T staff. (usually work around 16-18 hours a day 7 days a week...been doing this pace for about 8 months now...Hopefully I will be taking some much needed vacation time shortly to go SNOWMOBILING (if we get some deep snow! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif )

Well to the McDonalds guy who said he was embarrased, I'm worse off than you. I'm 22 and don't have a job. Don't get me wrong, I've applied to Fry's, Best Buy, and Circuit City but never got a job at one of those places or even an interview. My dad pays me for doing work at home. I do stuff such as typing for my dad, washing cars, chauffeuring, house cleaning, and any other work that comes up.

Well, I'm a Field Engineer, and that DOESN'T mean I repair fields, before anyone asks. I also studied Plant at college(JCB's,CAT,etc - not daffodils or roses!).
I'm a lucky guy really as I love my job, though I've also had jobs I totally despise. Something good will come to us all, the wise will grab out with both hands and keep it. Money doesn't mean anything, neither does the title of your job. Working at McDonalds is no bad thing, if you enjoy it. My favourite job was cleaning cars up at the local garage, when I was 16.

Yep, I guess I'm a weirdo....

Well, I have the best job I have ever had! Ever!

I work as IT staff for a national mortgage lending/ financing company.

I mostly support the custom apps but also desktop PC's and LAN equipment. I love it, I just can't believe they pay me to have so much fun!

Now, back in the old days...I used to be a Navy Nuclear reactor operator, and let me tell you...not a fun job! Then I was a automatic transmission specialist and FI/driveability mechanic for Dodge...(Dodge=Junk!)

The truth is, a job is one of two things:
1. Evil that is neccessary to pay the bills
2. The most rewarding thing you could ever be payed for.

I have had both...IS rules!

I'm an IT consultant. The best way to describe my job is I keep the PC's running. Whether it's assembling, rebuilding, installing, troubleshooting, etc. Right now the company I'm on contract with wants to hire me on full time. Negotiations are continuing.

This job really makes me want to get up in the morning and go to work. I like to interact with the users and network admin (lanlords we call them hehe). I'm learning a lot about Netware 4.1 (they are going to 5 in the spring), Groupwise, NT server, 95, 98, 3.1. I see the latest technology has to offer as to the fastest computers, newest devices, and software programs. It's interesting that I get to test all of these items and how (if they will) well they interact with their networks (16 servers).

And I have to mention that it's a great company to work for also. And the person I report to is even better.

I'm a Marine Corps MSgt (E-8 with 18 yrs, 10 mos and 23 days!) in charge of an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team. Our responsibilities are to "handle any ordnance related situation beyond the capabilities of other military occupational specialties." That's the "official" version. We're assigned to a Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS)and as such we respond to any aircraft that are experiencing an inflight emergency, especially if they are carrying ordnance. We are also the "bomb squad" for 18 counties surrounding the Air Station and provide support to the civilian authorities. We're also trained to attack and defeat home-made bombs and terrorist weapons (IEDs) so we can provide a force protection capability to the MCAS or any unit that we may be directly supporting. Oh, and by the way, I still have all fingers, toes and both eyes - I just don't hear as well! LOL

Currently, my primary job is MIS Technician for a municipal government. I also operate and maintain all of their A/V equipment.

I am also the A/V engineer for my church, this is an unpaid position as the reward is in the work itself.

I also do A/V recording, photography, and related work for various organizations and people in the area.

Previously, I was the Technical Manager for a small software developer. I handled all of the hardware and networking sales, purchasing, installation, and support for the company and its 300 customers nationwide.

Before that, I was a Home Theater salesman and trainer at Incredible Universe, Indianapolis. It's really too bad that Tandy Corp. closed that division. It was the best job I ever had.

Before that, my brother and I had a lawn mowing business. It lasted about five years, then my brother went to the Navy and I got my job at Incredible Universe.

I figure I'm not doing too bad for a 22-year old. In about 8 years I've gone from making an average $250/mo. to $2500/mo. I'm finally out of the living paycheck to paycheck lifestyle, that is, until I get my house.

Sorry for being long-winded, but I can't sleep and don't have anything else to do at 1:30am.

I own and founded a fledgling company called EnviroPhoto scheduled to debut in San Francisco in April. I have eight wonderful children,(no I wouldn't do that to one woman), and a great wife. I have been working on processes, configurations, and systems for this business non stop for one and a half years. I eat it, sleep it, talk it and walk it, and even dream it, and am very excited to finally take it to the field this spring. If anyone will be in the Pier areas in San Francisco this spring look me up. If you like what you see and have some knowledge of photography and computers I will be expanding rapidly.

I think my current job title is Compatibility Lab Technician. Basically, I take a lab filled with about 150 different PC and motherboards (each one a unique motherboard) and run my company's products through as many of them as possible before the shipping date. In between that light duty work, I also design and test heatsinks, qualify engineering changes, troubleshoot specific problems, hack on bioses, and generally have a good time. Computer R&D has to be the best job I've had.

I've worked as Tech Support (telling Packard Bell owners how to rip the CPU out of their machine over the phone) and as MIS staff, but R&D seems to be my calling. While I am good at fixing stuff, I am much better at making it break. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Guiding my niece through the chaos that is life is my primary responsibility; the other two either currently pay the bills or will hopefully someday.

1. Uncle and legally guardian trying to raise a bright seven-year-old niece.
2. Archival treatment and restoration of rare books.
3. Fulltime Student at Oklahoma State University

I had spent four lucrative years as a CAD/CAM engineer with a major manufacturing company in Chicago, Illinois. In 1996 tragedy struck me niece and she was left essentially with only me. I quit me job and have since tried to devote as much time to her as possible. She recently entered school fulltime, which has allowed me to return to college while she’s at school.

Though I would give me life without hesitation to allow me niece to have her mother and father back, I’m thoroughly enjoying raising her.

Regards,

Zotz Mein

Tried to join the USAF right out of highschool, but got medically discharged the day before I was supposed to graduate basic training. Recently moved from Iowa to Southern California so my wife could be with her family and I could be away from the snow. I hope to eventually go to college and get either an IT job or something where I can play around in the guts of computers, since I'm really a hardware geek at heart. But since it's hard to get the job I want (computer tech for starters) without an education, I gotta get myself out of debt and into college and thus back into debt probably. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/icons/icon12.gif I really envy those of you who aren't living paycheck to paycheck.
