Last week, I've o/clocked my Pentium 223 MMX to 266 (75Mhz x 3.5). My system running well without additional cooling gear. Last night, I found that my motherboard support to 83 Mhz bus speed, so I tried to o/clocked (again) my 266 to 300.
I set my bus jumper to 83 Mhz, turned the power on, and everything seems OK: Bios diagnostic, Pentium 300 Mhz (Yessss....!!), 64 Meg SDRAm...well...seem I'll get new born 300 Mhz Pentium.
But when the computer tried to booting from the hard disk, I just found Windows's 98 logo in my monitor and then hang, no response from the HD. I try to reboot, and the same result happenned.
Can anybody explain to me whats wrong? I am I expecting too much from original 233 MMX to 300?
At now my system running in 3.5 multiplier internal clok, 75 Mhz bus clock, 2.8 V core voltage.
My system is: PC Chips TX Pro II (Taiwan made) motherboard, 64 Meg PC100 SDRAM, 2,1 Gig seagate HD (master) and 850 meg Seagete HD (slave), 24x Acer CD-ROM, ATI Rage II Pro 4 Meg VGA card.
Thank's for your advice. And sorry for my English, since I'am Indonesian.

You are expecting a lot from that chip - but is has been done. First of all, you should read the overclocking guide, start here: http://www.sysopt.com/overcexp.html

Keep in mind that not all components will run well at faster bus speeds - by overclocking the bus on that board you overclock everything ins th system, not just the CPU. Also, you will need excelent cooling for the CPU when running at higher speeds, in addition, you may need to raise the core voltage of the CPU.
