I've recently had a Pentium III Processor installed in my machine and would like to know whether it's an Intel, or Cyrix or whatever. Is there any way to tell without taking the cover off my machine?

I could have sworn I saw the word "Intel" on the outside of the unit that was installed but when I ran WinBen.exe I tought it said "Cyrix"

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Intel makes the PentiumIII, no one else, If you are worried about the processor you have in your machine there are a couple way's to check, (it should say on your screen when the computer boots), also if you are running Win 95 or Win 98, right click on "My Computer" then click on properties, under "System Properties" it should say "Genuine Intel" Pentium III processor. There is also a shareware program called CPUId that will tell you, maybe someone else can tell you where to get it, I can't recall where I got it.

No, the Pentium III registers as a Pentium 2 in Win 98, and in Win 95 it registers as a Pentium Pro. just look for "GuinuinIntel".

Cobain's probably correct, as far as the recognition of the PIII being recognized as a PII in Win 98 and a Pentium Pro in Win 95, I have not installed anything except PII's and Celerons as far as Intel chips go, don't know anybody with the big bucks, as he said just look for the "GenuineIntel" on the "General" page in System Properties

Thanks everyone for the great help. All were good suggestions.

The reason I asked was because Win98 does indeed report an incorrect processor.

I looked at a few of the programs you all suggested as well as SiSandra. They all did the job well, and thank you.
