I'm critically dependent upon a stable system since I usually spend more than 10 hours a day with the computer. With my cyrix 200+ and the Asus P/I-P55T2P4 motherboard it chrashes all the time, and I'm just about going crazy at this time.

Any advice what to do? I assume it is all related to overheating since the P/I-P55T2P4 card is not "officially" listed as a "supported" motherboard for the Cyrix 200+ (of course I found that out long after buying the computer...).

he dude what is the busspeed you use 75 mhz ?
take it at 66 mhz and 2,5 multiplier then look at you cpu cooler does the fan do its job well ? otherwise take out the ram and clean the contacts might help maybe also it
can be your power suply check that **** thing
otherwise is the system corect installed ?
get a real pentium mmx for that mainboard
than your worries are over and you have more speed

keep the house clean !!!

Cyrix 200+ ? If its the Cyrix233 chip, get a chip.A lot of them were just plain-NO GOOD! If its the Cyrix 200mmx-You got a chance. The actual clock speed of the 200 chip is 166. It also runs stable when setup as a 150.Cyrix also doesnt like sdram. They seem to do better with EDO.Check your Bios date, and go to the Asus site to see if there is an update available. An update may provide better support for the Cyrix. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

What Rev is your board? If the board rev is below 3.0, then the onboard power supply might not be able to supply enough current to the chip. Greater that 3.0 does not have this problem because asus added a switching power supply on the t2p4 at that rev. if the board rev is above 3.0 then you should look at better cooling for the processor. I would suspect that You need better cooling, processor and case.

Wow, I'm impressed. Thank you for all the advice. After five chrashes last night I became so pissed off (I lost a lot of code) that I in my rage ordered an Intel 233 Mhz MMX (it is the fastest processor the card can handle). Hopefully the problem will be solved. I can't wait to pull out that crappy cyrix and throw darts at it http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif.

The old setup used a bus-speed of 75Mhz, Cyrix 200+ (no MMX), and the motherboard revision was 3.1. The BIOS was updated a month ago. I also use 96Mb EDO.

And for the record: I use two monitors with a Eontronics Lilith Banshee 16Mb card & a ATC Tseng Labs ET6000 2Mb card. Along with the sound-card and the network card I guess these cards generate a lot of heat in there. Maybe I still should consider an extra fan?

The more cooling the better! Smart move to buy a real pentium, all probs should vanish now.
