G' Day all,

My Question : I have heard that there is a way to boot an atx computer with a password (while off!). While the computer is off you can type a password in and it will boot up. How would I go about doing this?

Thanks all!
brad.

i have not heard of typing in a passwd while the computer is off...how would the computer know that it is receiving input? but you can have a bios passwd so that the computer will not even POST if you do not type in the passwd. that is something that can be set in your bios...need computer specs to help you more...

HP's at work have a boot option from keyboard.

You have to install the software app also that enables it somehow. Thing is, HP's ATX is not really ATX, as some power is still used by the sys to monitor inputs like that even when shutdown.

I have a GigaByte LX3 motherboard, and an Award BIOS. It works by providing a low voltage current to the keyboard when the computer is powered off. You set the desired key-combination in your BIOS setup, and then you can type it in when the computer is off to turn it on. It works (almost) every time on mine, except when you have a cold shutdown without shutting down Windows first.
