I have a new computer and am trying to install a dos program that I use a lot. I do not have the original disk, only backup copy. I cannot get this new computer to accept it. I have typed at c: prompt
c:\name of program\restore a: c: This was the command I used before for reinstalling the program but cannot get it to work on this computer. Please help. I really need this program.
P.S. Susan's suggestion worked. I copied msbackup.*.*, restore.*.*,all msback files, & msbconfg files. I then restored the program through msbackup program in dos.

are you running straight dos or do you have windows too?
if in dos look at the drectory for the disc
by typing
a:\dir
see if there is a setup.exe
if not
a:\"contents name" copy c:\"new directory"
use whatever it is that suits you to fill in between my quote marks

If you are running win 9x just drag the contents of your floppy into a new folder on your HD

smokin1, I don't think there will be a setup file because those are backups. I am correct, Radstudent?

What version of DOS or WIN did you use to make the backups? What's the error message you get?

If you used an earlier version of DOS to make the backups, you will need to use that earlier version to make the restore of the files.

If you are able to get into the old machine, make a copy of the backup program (and restore too - I can't remember exactly) from DOS and put it onto a floppy.

Then just copy that/those files onto the new machine and run it (from a DOS prompt).

I cursed MS in the past every time they changed the versions of Backup and they were not backwards compatible.

Hope this helps.

I think Susan is right. You have to know exactly what version of Dos you used to backup the files. What I did in mine, I installed another hard drive and run Dos setup and restore all backup files I made.
I used this drive as my 2nd drive.
Perhaps, you can also do it if you partition your hard drive and install Dos (not sure though). Windows 98 and Partition Magic (as I heard) are able to partition the hard drive without losing your present setting.

Good Luck
