I have heard from various sites about Cyrix's
deal with Intel to allow them use of the 370PPGA and the 810 chipset. This new chipset is capable of 133mhz FSB.And it will use the Cayenne core(if they still call it that). The relase is scheduled for the 3rd quarter. Now many have said Cyrix is DOA that they lost the CPU rat race. But even with AMD releasing the K7 before this I think that they and Intel will face some stiff competition from Cyrix.MII may not inspire now but how about a 550 mhz MIII that makes a PIII look like a 486 and Cyrix has always offered the best pricing. How about it,any thoughts?

Yeah right
sigh REX has always rated its chips way above what they can actually do.
IMHO a sigh REX 500 might run like a non o/c cel 300a but at higher temperatures. Hmmm might make a good waffle iron.

In my humble opinion, Cyrix is no longer a challenger in this race: It is too late! They make a mistake keeping that pentium rate classification. They were successful in computer under a $1,000.00 but their fpu sucks. Unfortunately AMD faced real financial problems (lost 129 million) and they need a new motherboard design for the long expected k-7. I won't bet on Cyrix!

Actualy when I said 550mhz I did not mean PR rating. And the new core from Cyrix is said to have a more powerful FPU than AMD or Intel CPUs.And when introduced it will use a 133mhz bus.If they use a PR rating it would be more in line with 600 or 700 mhz ratings. As I said it's slated for a late summer or early fall release. So we will have to wait and see.

Cyrex makes ****, they always have, and even if they work half-way on par with anyone, it will be too little too late, by the time it is out, everyone else will have a better setup. And prices are always dropping. Becides, it will most certenly be another chip overclocked.

Yup, Cyrix is not gonna be a player too much longer. National Semiconductor (parent company) just announced their exit from the PC chip business.

I agree.. Cyrix chips work fine for what they were intended for.. inexpensive cpu's for buisness apps. Not everyone plays computer games after all... There is more to computers than games...
