Ok I have the FIC VA-503+ board and can change the FSb from 66-100MhZ including 83MhZ and 95 MhZ I would like to overclock it to 350 MhZ if possible which settings should I use... I also have a question about RAM. I still have EDO Ram which runs at 66MhZ FSB. Will I have to buy new RAM??? If so, which kind should I get?

The Amd 300 should clock to 350 (3.5x100) no sweat. I haven't tried this with Edo.I would get some good pc100 sdram.

Try with the edo ram you have now, some people have been lucky changing the bus speed to 100mhz and having the memory still work fine (usually it's good quality mem) The chip should be fine at 350... if it's having problems try replacing the memory, though it is a bit expensive.

VIA MVP3 chipsets support asynchronous bus speed for memory (i.e they can be run at processor clock speed (e.g 100mhz) or AGP clock speed at 66mhz). That means you can run your processor and cache at 100mhz bus (100x3.5 etc) while setting your old EDO Ram to run at 66mhz by means of a jumper.

I belive krueger has the 66Mhz FSB version of the AMD 300... I have mine running great 75*4.5 but when I try to up it to 83*4.5 it starts to boot up windows, and freezes... I have the FIC 503+ board too... only I AM using PC100 RAM I read somewhere that theres PCI problems at 75Mhz, and 83Mhz... but I'm running good at 75... but 83 won't let me boot good... 95 won't even let my BIOS start up...

any suggestions on what I should do??

krohnm: I don't know how you got the impression that I have the 66MhZ version of the AMD 300 but that's ok. Some guys just make up stuff to sound important http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

A friend of mine has M590 Mboard and is running 83.5x4 with AMD300 and 66mhz Sdram. If he can do it on a Pcchips board I see no reason you can't on a FIC 503+.And in my expierence EDO has no problems with 75 or 83 as long as it is good quality.

O/c a k6-2 to 350 is a real *****
When i first try it, it did not work (had my sdram memory at 66Mhz)but then i install a cooling program (CPUidle) it seem to work, so try that.

I've got an older AMD K6 (not II or III) and was told by lots o folks that it wouldn't run over 66 FSB. HAH to all of them. I run at 3.5x100 with 100 SDRAM and a fantastic TYAN MOBO!.... even had it up to 366 and 375 but it's faster overall at 350... Don't thing the AFR AFQ thing means doodle as i've done this with two other K6 300's just be cool is all that seems to count!

BTW... I didn't even have to UP the vre to do it either!! I'm doing that at 2.2! I'm considering raising the vre to 2.7 for a few weeks and then trying for 400...

Krueger,Go for 100x3.5,this will keep all your pci slots running at their proper speed thus avoiding any type of hardware related problem.83 mhz is a booger cause of the speed increase it gives to your pci slots.

I would first try setting your ram to run at 66mhz and get your sytem stable. Then you might try raising it to 100mhz and see what happens.

If your chip does not run stable at 3.5x100 try raising your core voltage to 2.3 and then 2.4 until it becomes stable.
DO NOT GO PAST 2.5 THIS WILL SHORTEN THE CPU LIFE DRASTICALLY UNLEES YOU HAVE SOME SERIOUS COOLING GOING ON.

No 75mhz? Try 100x3.5
