Hi. I would like your opinion about RAM. I saw 2 brandname that claim to run at 133Mhz, Micron and Corsair. Should i get one with ECC checking or not ? Are they really PC133 compliant ? Is an ABIT BX6-R2 mobo able to handle that speed ? What's the difference when it comes to CAS2 and CAS3 ? which is better or which one should I use when comparing RAM ? Which one will u buy (other choices) ? Thanks guys and gals.

There are many PC100 brands that will run at 133. Generally they are the ones that are rated CAS Latency 2.

Don't bother with ECC unless you are running a business application that must have absolute numerical accuracy.

The PC133 standard is just now being bolted down and real products will not be on the market until June.

The BX6-2 handles FSB speeds up to 153MHz.

CAS Latency 2 is faster than 3. However, you should set your BIOS for 3 at FSB speeds above 112 (or so).

I bought CL2 last September and have yet to get my P2-450/BX6-2 to run above 117. I haven't given up, but I have a feeling the new Celeron 433/466 may outpace my current 527 operation. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Andre - look again. They're selling PC100 SDRAM rated to 166MHz. Tclk=6ns gives 166. This should not be confused with Tac=6ns which is the minimum requirement for PC100 Clock Access time, and often the value stated in the ads.

Thanks guys. Appreciate your help. I have bought received one from Crucial Tech which claims to be PC133 but I discovered that it is not much better than the cheap RAM PC100 I bought a 6 months ago. Still O/C to the same old speed with my old RAM....527Mhz for a PII 450 with everything on...L2 cache and shadowing. tried disabling them but same. I guess this is the best it can go. Thanks again.

That's the best I can do too. I'm going to try Peltier cooling next week, I'll post the results if they're better.
