Another Celeron 400 Overclock Question

Hey there, I am new to overclocking so forgive me if im asking something that has been asked to death already http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif I have a Celeron 400 with a ABIT BH6. Im running it at 83Mhz FSB (500Mhz) with 2.05V. Runs fine but here is my question: It would not boot to Win98 without setting the AGPCLK/CPUCLK setting to 1/1. At 2/3 it just wouldnt work. Should this be safe to use? Thanks. No problems so far at 2 days now.

NOT SAFE! I have the same setup (BH6 and Cel400). I run mine at 450 (75mhz bus) and I am happy with it. I tried to get 500 for a while, but after the second re-format/reinstall I gave up. It did fine for a while, for sure. But when it went bad, it went BAD--REAL BAD. Mine was more stable than yours from the sound of it--I was able to run 3d Mark99 Max, and Q2 timedemo at 500. From that I guess its obvious that Win98 booted up just fine.

The 83mhz bus is rolling the dice big time, dude. If you've got a hard drive or two to trash, along with maybe your peripherals (vid cards, etc.), go right ahead.

He didn't say anything about ultra dma or pio mode settings... if those are turned off/down it should be safe for his HD. You are essentially overclocking all your pci stuff at the same time when you have the bus speed at 83, normally, if they overheat, or just don't like that setting, they won't work or they'll do funky things. Even if the card's life is being shortened... it probably won't show up for a couple of years and by then you'll have a Celeron 800 @ 1 gigahertz or something http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Anyone have any bad experiences that hit them even when their system was stable?

Ok could you explain the settings you were referring to for my Hard Drive? I have DMA not checked on my HD under properties, ok and what are the pio mode settings? Thanks.
