I am running a txpro2 m/b
64mb sdram
amd k6 2 3dnow!(66mhz flavor)
I am currently running at 66*4.5 and have tried increasing the bus speed and lowering the multiplier with no success. Some settings won't even boot past bios.
I was wondering what is needed as in do I need to change the core voltage (currently 2.2v) or what.
I not after serious o/c, just a faster system that will run graphic intensive games (Unreal etc) more smoothly.
regards
Tom.

hey tom:>>
i have the newer version of the K6300 oc to 336(112x3) and its stable as a rock....
on a fic va503+ so you wont have any problems going to what i have done to my fsb..
as for the core voltage...you can take up to 2.4 but my cpu still runs great at 2.2v...
have fun....

well you seem to be doing things the right way round, i am surprised it would'nt run at 4 x 75 or even 3.5 x 83 however, try 5 x 66 and if it doesnt boot, up the voltage by .1 increments from 2.2 to 2.5. if it will boot at say 2.3 but jumps out of games, up it to 2.4. I dont recommend going over 2.5 but some do.Let us know how you go on and we can take it from there, but some chips just dont want to o/c.

Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately I have socket 7 not super s7 so I can't go above 83mhz.
I have actually had 66*5 but their was no appreciable difference, so I just keep it at 4.5.
i will try increasing the voltage and will post results.

Come on guys it's probably not the CPU at all. If he had a super 7 with 100MHZ that sucker would probably work fine a 3x100 or even 3.5x100 but he's clockin the works on that board and it's probably something else letting him down. I'v got multiple 300's that weren't supposed to work at anything other than 66 and they ALL WORK at 3.5x100 on a decent board with decent periphs!

Is that txpro2 an amptron PM9100 or a pc chips M571. If it is,a bios upgrade should help you out. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

The board is the M571
I just looked at the manual and the voltage go from 2.2, 2.8, 2.9, 3.2, 3.3, 3.5
2..2 to 2.8 seems like a big leap forward to me.
How will a bios upgrade work?
the bios date says 10/12/98 (I think)
what is the latest?

The bios upgrade should help get you past the 66mhz block.Check next to your keyboard connector for the version number. There is a version 3 and a version 7 .Make sure you get the bios file for your board version. I think the latest is 1-9-99.

DO NOT ATTEMPT 2.8V IT WILL LIKELY FRY YOUR CPU
On my 430TX systems (3)they all choke on anything above 66mhz when running the HD in UDMA, but if I BIOS down to PIO4 or PIO3 they work okay, but overall, I am not willing to sacrifice UDMA hard disk performance for an extra 12% system perfomance increase in other areas.
bharn is probably very correct in his asumption that something else, other than the CPU is holding you up.
~~edit: I had one TX based system with Fast ATA drive that OCd well on 75 and even 83mhz, but when I swaped the parts to another case (nothing else changed- not even the power supply)it would not overclock at all. I went to this case because it was a full-tower that was easier to work on, could house more stuff later, and would be harder to steal. But I guess there was some kind of EMI not being shielded properly in the new configuration. If I have time later I may try some foil shielding here and there just to satisfy my curoiusity.
