I am looking for a compter in the price range of $0 to $13000. Any suggestions on a manufacturer, brand, and, in your opinion, will it be a good system or should I look for a more serious price?

If it isn't compatability you need, go with two alpha 21264s www.alphaprocessor.com (http://www.alphaprocessor.com) (i think) You should build the machine yourself. Dead easy.

If you want an x86, get a 750mhz AMD Athlon based system, with 192mb RAM, 32mb S3 Savage4 Pro, SCSI HDD and CD and tri boot Windows 98SE, NT 4 and Linux. Oh, and throw in BeOS for good measure http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

If you meant $13,000 check this out UGM (http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/003465.html). I am sure you mean $1,300 though. You could build an awesome box for $1,300.

I have seen a magazine at the place where I work and there was a DELL computer. It had 2(two)733Mhz Processors and a Wild Catz(I am not sure how to spell it) video/3d accelerator card. So this is what I am looking at now.

13,000 dollars.

holy cow.

I dont think it matters what his needs are for a computer at this level...whatever he gets is gonna be sweet...Man, what I would do with that kinda money to invest in a computer....first, I would use the first bit to buy an iBook and run over it with my truck. Just for fun. Then I would spend about 8000 or so on the PHATest computer monitor around. Kinda like the Kate and Leo's on the ScreenSavers....the rest I would use towards the actuall computer i guess....I'll leave the rest of the specs up to others, I just want that monitor..drool.. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Holy Sh*t!! Man I wish I had parents like that. I apologize I thought it may be a typo.
Do you want to build one or buy one already manufactured?

If I had the money I would go for a Dell DIMENSION XPS B SERIES, Dell has great reveiws at resellers.com (http://www.resellerratings.com).

I just went to their site and configured one of these and it came out to about $6,000. P3-800,256meg Pc700 rdram,Dvd player,CDRW,34 gig hdd,21 in monitor,etc..

Also like Alpha said tri boot that thing and try to get SCSI drives. Alpha that site is under some serious constrution.

Hi

First of all, don't buy Dell. They have good PC, but they are NOT the best around.
And, their support is way below average (personal experience)...

I you have $13.000 to spend, then go SCSI all the way.
I like IBM HD, specially the 18LZX series (9.1Gb or 18Gb, 10000rpm, 4Mb cache).

For performance and/or redundancy, add a Adaptec AAA-133U2 or AAA-131U2 RAID controller (RAID0, 1, 5 and 0/1).
Go for dual CPU. Win2k supports 2 CPU's.

This is gonna be good, I think I'll keep an eye on this post!
I hope you are going to build it, either way, you came to the right place my friend.
The only initial suggestions that I would have is to define your needs, map your strategy and think about future upgrades.
Best of luck,
......CHNsaw
