Hey folks,

A friend of mine just bought an Abit BH6 and a retail box Pentium II 450mhz CPU. His currently system has 128mb (2*64mb DIMMS) PC100 SDRAM (CAS-2 I think) and he wants to know if he can reach 500mhz with it. We all know it's multiplier locked, but has anyone been successful raising the CPU core speed
to 112mhz, thereby reaching 4.5*112 for 504mhz total? He's got the heatsink
and fan that came attached to the CPU (this is retail, not OEM) and plenty of cooling in his case, 3 case fans I think...I suppose my questions are:

1. Will a BH6 handle 504mhz? It's designed for up to 450mhz total @ 100mhz
core speed, but will overclocking it to 112 let us reach 504mhz?

2. Can the CPU itself handle it? We won't try for anything beyond that, but
112mhz sounds reasonable...I know overclocking a CPU that is rated for
450mhz sounds crazy, but he wants to emulate a P III 500mhz (without those KNIs, of course).

Thanks for taking the time to read this and offering your advice. Everyone
have a good weekend.

yeah, i know a lot of ppl with the bh6 or other abit boards that have the 450 o/ced to 504. if no-go, rais voltage in .1v steps, go no giher than .3v above standard. other than that, you should have no probs...on a smaller note, the pentium pro, pentium 2, and p3 chips are all the same core, so his 504 will be faster than a p3 500.

Thanks chad, will do. Is it worth going to a BX^ Rev 2.02 with hopes of maybe hitting 527mhz (117*4.5), or will the CPU puke on me before I can get it up there?

My P2-450 OEM is solid at 527 on a BX6r2. It takes 2.3V to do it and I'm going to try more agressive cooling next. (Raising the Vcore doesn't work - yet.)

his p-2 will still be slower (contarary to the 1st reply), the architecture on the p-3 is alot cleaner and lets it gain 14 mhz, that are unshown. Its ram is faster, and the new instructions will alow future programs to run better.
