Talk about spending a few $! http://www.zdnet.com/zdtv/screensavers/showtell/jump/0,3658,2420120,00.html
Here's how it all breaks down pricewise, so far.
Addtronics 7890A Case-- $159
Intel VC820 MOBO--$146
Intel PIII 800-MHz processor-- Will ship in about a month at about $850.
Gigabyte GA-71X MOBO-- $125AMD Athlon 800 MHz-- $899
Kingston 128-MB Rambus RAM-- $826
Seagate Cheetah 18PL U2W Hard Drive-- $758
Quantum 7.6 GB Hard Drive-- $105
Generic Floppy Drive-- $17
Plextor Ultraplex 32X CD-ROM-- $79
Smart and Friendly Rocket 8X CD-R-- $352
Total so far-- $5,629
looking at the article, they aren't using both processors - that would be conflict hell to mix processors. - it's an either/or type of thing on the processors & boards.
Good case choice.
I won't be touching any 800 mHz chip for at least 8 months while they work out any bug/patch/BIOS issues.
Don't know the boards, but historically the intel boards have been a bit on the steep price side while weak on performance. I'd probably have to lean towards the gigabyte board and athlon myself.
I like all of the drive choices except the generic floppy makes me nervous - I'd really like a TEAC floppy - after all - if something breaks, that's your boot drive - don't wanna go on the cheap there.
I agree with the CD-R instead of a CD-RW - I haven't found a deep need for an 'RW.
I also agree with the 32 speed CD - I have no need for the warp speed CD-ROM drives out these days. They are more trouble and prone to damage than the 20 to 32 range speeds.
Only thing I see which is missing is a DVD device. Many games are coming out in DVD and you only need one disk - Baldur's Gate - you can constantly change between 5 CD's or you can run one DVD - give me the DVD any time.
I'd also expect many future games will be jazzed up with movie graphics like they did for wing commander and a few others. Adds quite a bit for the flavor of the game.
I'm sure the others will harp on the graphics card - we all have our favorites, so I won't go there.....

They do have a DVD in the machine. I saw it on their show last night(screensavers). They also went with the P3 because of the exts for gameing. I just cut and pasted the price list. I don't know why the have both proccessers listed. They call this thing UGM( the ultimate gameing machine).Price is no object as ZDTV is buying it! They will boot it up on Wendsday.
