Here is the deal: My computer is 5 years old (pentium 66)!
What I would like to do is use this monitor and keyboard and go to a computer show and buy a computer.
I would appreciate if anybody can recomend a list of componets to look for, i.e. MB,case, video card, what brand/model etc. I am doing some research on my own but I'd like to hear from the experts.
Thanks.
Juan
P.S. I thinking on the $500/600.00 range

with that kind of money you should be able to get a pretty good system. You don't mention whether or not you game or just internet and standard programs. Celeron chips are priced low currently. If you aren't into overclocking try a SuperMicro P6SBA motherboard. They are rock solid in the $115 range. You'll need an ATX case. I would choose an Enlight or IWill - about $65. 64 MB PC100 ram will run $100. I like ATI value cards for video. An 8 MB AGP Expert can be had for under $70. As for sound, you can spend anywhere from $9 to $199 or more. just fit it into your budget at the end. As for purchasing at a computer show, I would not reccommend that. You may never see the dealer again. Try to buy from a local dealer or online store. If you can't build it yourself, buy the parts and have a local dealer put it together for you.

BX6 Rev. 2 - about $140
Celeron 366 - about $90
64MB SDRAM - about $75
6.4GB HD - about $120
32X CDROM - about $40
Riva TNT - about $100
56k modem - about $40
ATX Case - about $50
64-bit sound - about $35
TOTAL = about $700
This is a little more than you wanted to spend, but remember...
**Generic and OEM parts usually work just as good**
Oh by the way, I wouldn't buy from a computer show. The prices and service aren't that great - plus like purplehippo said, you may never see them again. I got these prices online search around at www.pricewatch.com they have some great deals! That's where I find ALL my parts...
